🙏🏻😃 Thank you, AJKD, for highlighting our study in this thoughtful editorial. @AJKDonline We are grateful to see our work, “Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation Versus Continued Dialysis Among Patients Aged 75 Years or Older: A Target Trial Emulation,” discussed in the September 2026 issue of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. The editorial, “Kidney Transplant Decision-Making for Candidates Over Age 75: Insights From Target Trial Emulation,” provides important perspective on both the clinical implications and the methodological considerations of using target trial emulation to address a difficult question in older adults with kidney failure. ajkd.org/article/S0272-6386(… Our study suggests that among carefully selected wait-listed patients aged 75 years or older, deceased donor kidney transplantation may carry an early mortality trade-off but can provide a longer-term survival benefit. These findings reinforce the importance of individualized transplant evaluation and shared decision-making rather than using chronological age alone as a barrier to transplantation. 📖 American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Volume 88, Issue 3, September 2026 DOI: 10.1053/j.ajkd.2026.02.647 ajkd.org/article/S0272-6386(… Very grateful to our outstanding team: Napat Leeaphorn, Rose Mary Attieh, Katherine M. Montez Rath, Michelle C. Odden, and Manjula Kurella Tamura for the insightful accompanying editorial and for advancing the discussion around causal inference and kidney transplant decision-making in older adults. 📖 American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Volume 88, Issue 3, September 2026 DOI: 10.1053/j.ajkd.2026.02.647 #KidneyTransplant #Nephrology #Transplantation #Dialysis #TargetTrialEmulation #CausalInference #OlderAdults #SharedDecisionMaking #KidneyFailure #AJKD #MayoClinic

😃😊 Just wrapped up my presentation on “Agentic AI – Role in Education” here at the Mayo Clinic Faculty Development 2026 conference in Denver! 🏔️🎓 Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a dynamic discussion. The thoughtful questions and insights from the room truly highlighted both the immense excitement and the profound responsibility that comes with integrating AI into medical training. 💡 During our session, we explored: 🔹 The Evidence: The current data supporting the use of AI agents in education. 🔹 Adaptive Pathways: Designing personalized learning and AI-powered coaching systems. 🔹 Cognitive Augmentation: How AI can actively stimulate deeper reading, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. 🔹 The Reality Check: Navigating the real-world opportunities and limitations of agentic AI in healthcare training. My biggest takeaway from the morning: AI should never replace educators. Its true power lies in amplifying great teaching, personalizing the learning journey, and helping trainees develop stronger reasoning skills—all while keeping human mentorship firmly at the center. I am so encouraged by the enthusiasm from educators across Mayo Clinic and beyond as we collectively shape the future of medical education. Thank you to the Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development and all the participants for an outstanding session! Now, time to get outside and enjoy a bit of that crisp Colorado air! 🌲👟 Wisit Cheungpasitporn, MD, FACP, FASN, FAST @MayoClinicNeph Professor of Medicine & Clinician-Scientist, Mayo Clinic Leading AI Innovation in Kidney Care & Medical Education #MayoClinic #MedicalEducation #AgenticAI #ArtificialIntelligence #FacultyDevelopment #HealthProfessionsEducation #InnovationInEducation #FutureOfLearning #AIinMedicine #MedicalEducators #MedEd #Denver

😊🙏🏻 Happy to see our study highlighted in ASN In the Loop today! 🎉 Thank you to ASN @ASNKidney for featuring our recent publication in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD): “Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation Versus Continued Dialysis Among Patients Aged 75 Years or Older: A Target Trial Emulation.” 🔗 Article: ajkd.org/article/S0272-6386(… This study addresses an increasingly important question in nephrology and transplant medicine: among carefully selected, transplant-eligible adults aged ≥75 years, what is the survival impact of deceased donor kidney transplantation compared with remaining on dialysis? Using a target trial emulation framework and national transplant registry data, we found that although transplantation was associated with an early postoperative mortality risk, a survival benefit emerged over time, with a break-even point around 3 years and a meaningful survival advantage by 5 years. Congratulations and sincere thanks to all of my co-authors: Napat Leeaphorn , Rose Mary Attieh, Katherine M. Oshel, Oscar A. Garcia Valencia, Wisit Cheungpasitporn, and Tambi Jarmi, along with all collaborators who contributed to this work. @napatlee1 @OscarGarciaMD @MayoClinicNeph Grateful to ASN In the Loop for helping disseminate new kidney research to the nephrology community and advancing evidence-based care for older adults with kidney failure. #Nephrology #KidneyTransplant #Transplantation #Dialysis #KidneyDisease #AJKD #TargetTrialEmulation #ClinicalResearch #ESKD #KidneyCare #ASN

Honored and humbled to have our work featured in ASN In The Loop today! 🙏🗞️ Congratulations @rupeshrainamd @md_rupesh academic.oup.com/ckj/article… Our systematic review and meta-analysis, "Artificial Intelligence for Predicting Pediatric Acute Kidney Injury," published in the Clinical Kidney Journal, evaluated 14 AI/ML models across 11 studies (encompassing 33,949 children) for the early prediction of pediatric AKI. 💡 Key Findings: 🔹 Top Performer (Discrimination): Gradient boosting achieved the highest pooled AUC (0.873). 🔹 Top Performer (Accuracy): Random forest demonstrated the highest median sensitivity (0.821) and specificity (0.942). 🔹 The Big Picture: While the data strongly highlights the incredible promise of AI in pediatric nephrology, it also underscores a critical next step: we must prioritize consistent reporting and rigorous external validation to safely bring these tools to the bedside. A huge thank you to my exceptional co-authors, mentors, and the Clinical Kidney Journal and ASN communities for this wonderful recognition. I am so excited to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI in kidney care! 🧠🫘 Wisit Cheungpasitporn, MD, FACP, FASN, FAST Clinician-Scientist & Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic #PediatricNephrology #AKI #AIinMedicine #MachineLearning #KidneyCare #DigitalHealth #ASNInTheLoop #FutureOfMedicine
