Our host city got its name from a coin toss. Two founders, one penny, best two out of three. If it had landed the other way, it would be called Boston. Any detectives cracked it yet?

i’ve been running a summer camp for software engineers every summer since 2015 and this year i’ve decided this september will be the last one.
i’m truly beyond words. SO damn grateful for everyone who has attended, sponsored, and/or supported my crazy idea to take this on in my 20s.
i’ll write a longer recap in time that i’ll turn into a conference talk if you’ll have me 😉 (cc @rubyconf) about how it’s shaped me and what 12 years of building this has taught me about the architecture of belonging and the kinds of communities that become part of who we are.
rails camp west was designed from every angle as an invitation to rest, be present, and connect with the people around you. no wifi, no photographers, no cell reception, no strict agenda, no city noise. just us and the woods, lakes, mountains, rivers, and our sacred evening karaoke.
the bonds created will live far beyond the space i created for them.
but for now, back to my final event prep….one more sleep until @railscamp_USA!!!

Fantastic insights from Pragprog author, @joemasilotti
And, a shameless plug for his bestselling book:

Ruby Runway Spotlight: Joe Masilotti's Ruby Native ships real native iOS and Android apps from your existing Rails HTML and ERB. No Swift, no Kotlin. Here's his story, and his advice on charging early to test an idea fast.

I just released Insta, a new snapshot testing library for Ruby, live at @rubyconf in Las Vegas!
Extracted from Herb's test suite and inspired by @mitsuhiko's fantastic insta library for Rust.

Amazing job @rubycentralorg on @rubyconf’s quarter century anniversary conference this week. The organization, MCs, program, and community facilitation were excellent. Makes me proud to have ever been involved.

Hey, that's me!
Thanks so much for inviting me to present @coolhand_labs at @rubyconf !
Was exciting to show what we are building to engineering peers I've always admired, and talk about how Coolhand can take AI / agentic maintenance off of their plates!

Dave doesn't know this, but he's the one who introduced me to Ruby and Rails back in 2005 at a No Fluff Just Stuff conference.
Not exaggerating to say it dramatically changed the course of my life.
