Of the 6,000 races held at HRR since 2019, Berks has beaten Bucks 53.5% of the time. However in the 900 close races (<1 length) the ratio is reversed and Bucks has won 55% of the time

The % winners coming from either side has varied, but in all but three years Berks has won more than Bucks since 1999

However, as mentioned, in close races Bucks tends to prevail. Victories 1L or less = Blue, 1/2L or less = Silver

The Thursday and Friday of the 2007 regatta were the slowest since 1999, with a median finishing time each of 8:06. By contrast, finals day in 2018 was the fastest with a median finishing time of 6:36.

The slowest winning time since 1999 at @HenleyRegatta was in 2008, where MH Pauls of @ImperialBoat won a semi-final of the Princess Royal with times of 03:06, 05:23 and 11:25 to the Barrier, Fawley and the Finish respectively.
Hello fellow rowing nerds. I've assembled a DB of all HRR results based on their lovely new machine-readable API. Would anyone care to guess the closest official verdict since 1999?

It was, of course, when @TheRealLondonRC beat Aramoho Whanganui RC of NZ by one inch in 2019 on the Wednesday of the Wyfold. Yes, one inch.

Appears we spilt pimms on the keyboard so the domain name is broken. We are still live at rowingstats.herokuapp.com/ while we fix it

Why did this happen? We shouldn't blame individuals. As Deming said "apparent differences between people arise almost entirely from action of the system that they work in, not from the people themselves"
Great Britain finish 14th in rowing medal table, having led it at the last three Olympics. First time since 1980 they've come home without a gold and the lowest place on the table since 1972. Six fourth-place finishes, though, show how close they came to a very different ending.

For my part, I hope @BritishRowing and the GB Squad become more open and embrace the wider rowing community again. Things that led to @RowingVoice tweeting the below shouldn't happen again. After all, 'success has many fathers, while defeat is an orphan'

One further reflection: lots of people dropped out after Rio. But this is only a surface-level explanation. I haven't seen a good explanation as to why this happened. Departing athletes is a feature of every Olympic cycle. Need to apply '5 whys' thinking a bit more

And I completely agree that Josh's outburst begs a very big question: why did he get to the point where he felt that way? It suggests unacknowledged anguish which he should have been able to talk about. I hope the former rowers acting as mentors to the squad bear that in mind.

I often find James's articles unnecessarily inflammatory or one-track. But this is thoughtful and nuanced. I saw from the outside the tendency he mentions to remove freedoms bit by bit, as much DTanner's doing as JGrobler or PThompson. Worth a read. telegraph.co.uk/olympics/202…

We lost a lot of talented athletes from Rio. Of the 16 rowers in the men's sweep squad, only @moesbihi made it Tokyo.

We must keep in mind that not all chances come off, and that other countries are learning how to win. Often copying GB Rowing’s methods.... GBR needs to train even smarter now, not just harder. What really makes the boat go faster?

The Olympic class results in Sarasota ‘17, Plovdiv ‘18 and Linz ‘19 should have re-set expectations of GB Rowing, within the rowing general community at least. Gold from the crews here was possible, but not the most likely outcome. And might have needed someone else to screw up.

Obviously medals are super important, and will be part of our funding going forwards, but a bit of context that this was not a bad overall performance by GBRT xitter.cf/GBRChris_A/status/1420…
