Congratulations, Dr. Soma! We have clarified the relationship between drought-induced growth change and gene expression in rice. We analyzed 576 sample data obtained under different droughts in the early, middle, and late stages with automatic irrigation. academic.oup.com/pcp/advance…

The iPOTs we have developed can mimic drought stress close to natural field conditions by automatic bottom irrigation. That's going to speed up the development of drought-resilient rice!!

Today, I really enjoyed to evaluate root system of wild rice that I collected in Myanmar 15 years ago. I found unique characters from some wild accessions. I want to isolate their QTLs!!

#WorldSoilDay Succulent plants that thrive in arid environments, such as this cactus (Rebutia flavistyla) from the Andes, may hold the key to understanding how plant root systems can adapt to soils with a very low moisture content.
Our RootRobot will be a tractor driven, automatic device that will excavate and clean root crowns from the field. An imaging station will be used to capture 3600 images of each root crown for analysis. Goodbye shovelomics, hello RootRobot!
