This day in 1942, Japanese Submarine I-17 fired around 25 rounds, using the deck gun, at the Ellwood Oil Fields, California. Damage was minimal, no one was injured. Many feared that the event was a prelude to a full-scale attack on the West Coast of the United States. #WW2
