So incredibly proud of @MHShahzad5 @ronirayes and @JonathanCools for getting this awesome review. The sum of so much work on Neutrophil Extracellular Trap biology in cancer and some insights on how we may transition to the therapeutic space, now 15 years since we first conceived that NETs might play a role in cancer progression! nature.com/articles/s41568-0…

Another inspiring lab meeting with our brilliant students. Very pleased that the Spicer lab can celebrate 10 years of science with continuous funding from various sources. Couldn’t have done it without my research partner @ronirayes who has been there from the beginning and all our students and collaborators along the way. Many thanks to the MGH Foundation/@mcgillsurgery, @SRC_CRS, @CIHR_IRSC, @FRQS1, @AATSHQ, @AmerSurg, @tfri_research, @rossy_cancer, @RIMUHC1, @MThoracics and @McGillGCI

I’m happy to share our latest work on tumour necrosis! During my time in the @megeblad lab, we found that tumour necrosis is not a passive phenomenon secondary to tumour growth, but an active phenomenon driven by neutrophils and NETs! Thread below: (1/13)

Proud to share @niseto’s (new PI @TheCrick) paper:
As a postdoc (@CSHL/@HopkinsMedicine), he found #NETs in necrotic tumors—I shrugged. But he looked closer: NETs block tumor vessel perfusion, causing necrosis, hypoxia, EMT & #Metastasis.

All of our graduates have gone on to excellent faculty positions all over the world thanks to unparalleled exposure to complex thoracic and upper GI surgical case volume, research, and multi-D care! It’s an experience where you will be afforded guided supervision but with significant independence to hone your skills.
Fellows have come from and returned to Chile, France x2, Germany, Finland, Israel x4, Saudi, Kuwait over the last 10 years.
Current fellows are from Argentina and Portugal which makes for complicated football relationships.
Check out some of the replies and reposts from our former fellows. They still like us and have nice things to say!
We are also looking for a fellow/post-doc in Translational Thoracic Oncology and accepting applications anytime. Our current post-doc @filippog92 has been extremely productive during his time with us. He will be returning to Rome as a staff thoracic surgeon in the fall.
