He’s right, and it needs to be a large well-designed agency because many scientists and experts will be needed to do the work of keeping us safe from AGI. This is the kind of bold, creative thinking we should expect from an intelligent representative of the people. #AI
U.S. Senate candidate @AbdulElSayed (D-MI) says he is "really worried" about AI's recursive self-improvement: "We need an SEC or FDA-style regulatory agency that can oversee the development of these models to make sure we don't open Pandora's Box..."

Historian of fascism here. This is an escalation of an attempt to normalize extreme violence, ritualize violence, militarize the country, and make violence entertaining so when they ask you to commit violence in their name, you will be ready.
Trump & Hegseth aren't just proposing to livestream an execution for people who want to watch.
They're proposing to broadcast a man being shot to death, even if deserved by our system, and even if you agree with this version of the death penalty, knowing that the footage will be clipped, shared, and pushed into social media feeds.
Including those of our children. The gruesome image will be everywhere.
Parents will have virtually no control over whether their kids see it. Once those images are released, there is no taking them back.
Hope all the parents in the Trump Admin are cool with that.

1/ New from me: Chinese diplos scrambled 90 min before the Xi/Trump visit to the National Archives to stop a Taiwan-related treaty from being shown.
..."an indication of pushback from within the U.S. gov against President Trump's warm reception of Xi.."

Interesting observations—the wholesale military purges ensured consolidation of Xi’s power at the same time that he was telling them to be ready to take Taiwan by 2027. “Taiwan” sounds like a litmus test in retrospect, since Xi knew it would be impossible given his purge urge.

Since both political parties and the donor class decided today is Paramount Oligarch Day, it seems like a good moment to post this before it is erased from the world by the media overlords.
This scene was supposed to be a cautionary tale. It became America's dominant ideology.
