People are always trying to do those silly false comparisons, torchy’s competes with slop bowl places not actual taco spots. It is actually very solid slop bowl fodder but it doesn’t travel or pack well for take out. Have to eat in and know what to order. They can turn it around.
Torchy’s board must have regretfully agreed their food indeed sucks (especially after a failed attempt at growing in Houston - Tacotown, USA) and their best move was to cut bait in these hot zones and focus on places that will eat garbage Mexican and swear it’s delicious (DFW and lands northward)

Gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe standing outsides business, screaming into a camera that they’re overpriced and inauthentic and throwing food on the street is not what the founders would consider “sober behavior”

They did an ok job putting it together, it’s better than anyone remembers, but if you read the original script it’s a serious banger. Really well paced and written.
Sort of speaks to the parenting discipline of my Gen X dad (think a Jewish guy who looks like Bruce Willis and runs a multi million dollar company but smokes weed chronically and has been banned from more than one Tiki bar in the state of Massachusetts) but we were at the time of this film’s release big Nic Cage fans from his success with mid-‘90s action films, like Con Air, the Rock, and Face/Off.
So without knowing anything about what this movie is about he just said “let’s go see that new Nic Cage movie!” So we went. I was nine. This film severely fucked me up to the point that I still haven’t been able to go back and watch it as an adult and dad I think still feels some shame about having some shame about not doing any research prior to seeing this thing. Granted he wasn’t really online yet.

I’ve said this before but I’ve never in my life encountered a more gifted music supervisor than BAP. Every episode has the perfect musicals to match what is being discussed. He could improve any tv slop drama with little effort.
