🎆 Celebrate the Fourth Without Forgetting Your Gut! 🇺🇸
The Fourth of July is full of burgers, hot dogs, fireworks, and great company, but it doesn't have to end with an unhappy gut.
Here are 6 simple ways to keep your microbiome happy while enjoying the holiday:
💧 Hydrate first. Hot weather + rich foods = your gut will thank you for extra water.
🌈 Don't skip the sides. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and fiber-rich foods help support a healthy microbiome.
🍔 Enjoy your favorites—mindfully. You don't have to avoid BBQ classics, but slowing down and eating until you're satisfied can help prevent digestive discomfort.
🚶 Take a post-meal walk. Just 10–15 minutes of movement can help support digestion.
🍹 Balance alcohol with water. Staying hydrated can help you feel better during and after the celebration.
💙 Know your triggers. If you live with IBS, SIBO, or another digestive condition, choosing foods that work for your body can help you enjoy the festivities without sacrificing comfort.
Healthy gut habits aren't about restriction—they're about feeling your best while making memories.
✨ What's your favorite healthy BBQ side? Share it in the comments below!

At MAST, every month is Digestive Health Month — but May gives us an extra reason to spotlight the importance of gut health and digestive wellness. 🍽️💙🚽
Digestive Health Month is a time to raise awareness about the impact GI conditions have on millions of people worldwide and the importance of continued research and education in this space.
At the MAST Program, we are committed to advancing research that improves our understanding of the gut microbiome, IBS, SIBO, and other digestive disorders.
Digestive health plays a vital role in overall well-being, and increasing awareness can help encourage earlier conversations, better care, and continued scientific innovation.
This month, we recognize the researchers, clinicians, patients, and advocates working to move digestive health forward every day.

And correlated with microbiome. Hydrogen sulfide=diarrhea, methane=constipation. Present by Dr. Villanueva from @MASTprogram @CedarsSinaiMed

This one is for the skeptical academics. We measured breath hydrogen sulfide and methane then immediately scope the patient and measured the same in duodenum and symptoms and microbiome. Guess what...breath correlates with duodenum and symptoms so gases are from small bowel!

Cristina Fajardo presenting an elegant study to show that efficacy of palatable elemental diet in SIBO/IMO is mediated by microbiome modulation rather than anti-inflammatory effect.
How does this happen? I will soon find out today at 2:45 in room 184 a #Research #Methane #SIBO @GabrielaGSLeite @MASTprogram
Today at 2:45 in room 184a @GabrielaGSLeite from @MASTprogram will again take the podium. #methane and methanogens are increased in low body weight and obesity but not normal weight. How does that happen? Find out this afternoon.
It’s going to be a #microbiome kind of day 🧬
Excited to learn, but equally important to stay a critical thinker—asking the right questions, looking closely at the data, and not overgeneralizing findings.Personalized #nutrition only works when it’s built on accurate, meaningful data.

Great talk by @GabrielaGSLeite : Type 2 #Diabetes is a biologically heterogeneous metabolic disease, with a strong link to #SIBO.
A powerful reminder of how #microbiome research is advancing our understanding of metabolic diseases.

Today is #SIBOAwarenessDay
SIBO affects millions of people and is often overlooked.
Top Symptoms include: Bloating, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea, Constipation (#IMO), & brain fog.
Thanks to the groundbreaking science baked research from @MarkPimentelMD @AliRezaieMD & the team at @MASTprogram - we now know there are 3 types of SIBO
1. SIBO 2. IMO 3. ISO
The Trio-Smart breath test by @GemelliBiotech is the only 3 gas breath test. Its essential to know which gas is elevated to know the right treatment plan.
Test → Diagnose → Treat → Diet + medication if needed.
#LowFermentationDiet helps prevent SIBO recurrence. BOTH what you eat & meal spacing mater.

April is #IBS awareness month. Let's start with this... I asked ChatGPT to list the top 5 most disrespected diseases in medicine and look at what's #1! This for a disease that affects 45million people in US! Not ok. Retweet this to show everyone how wrong this is.
AMAZING! So many patients will have life changing benefits from this new drug blocking Methane. TY @MarkPimentelMD @MASTprogram @CedarsSinai for your dedication, research and commitment to advancing therapies.
So excited about new data from our @MASTprogram @CedarsSinai. We are now fully blocking #methane (#IMO) in lab tests. More resources=progress! Love our MAST program team.

The relationship between the #microbiome (#SIBO, #IMO and #ISO) and #IBS has never been more clear and the drugs are now here to begin the final chapter...treatment!
This is amazing! Thank you team @MASTprogram for your commitment to microbiome science and helping children, teens and adults.
🌟 Exciting News from MAST! 🌟
We are proud to announce the official launch of PREIMAGINE — the pediatric extension of our groundbreaking REIMAGINE study.
Building on the success of REIMAGINE, PREIMAGINE aims to deepen our understanding of the developing microbiome and its vital role in child health. This next phase represents a major step forward in translating microbiome science into meaningful advances for children and families worldwide.
We are profoundly grateful to the incredible families who make this work possible through their trust, generosity, and participation. Their commitment is helping shape the future of pediatric research and care.

!! Don’t ignore the “Check Engine” light.
I know it's not that simple...but...the brain and gut do communicate as the brain does to your arms and feet. But, it doesn't always mean the brain is the problem in #IBS. I like to think of it as a "check engine" light. You don't change the light, you fix the engine (the gut).

🚨 This video is going viral for a reason.
“2,200 Americans killed at Pearl Harbor — we killed 3.5 million Japanese.
2,800 killed on 9/11 — we killed 400,000 in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We weren’t accused of genocide.
But Israel is — for responding more humanely than we ever have.”
Exactly. 🎯
