Tonight, Jews all over the world put everything down. Yom Kippur is the one day of the year when the noise stops. No work. No food. No distractions. Just a full and honest accounting of who we were this past year and who we intend to be in the next one. What I love most about this day is what it asks of us. Not to be perfect, but to be honest. To repair what we broke. To forgive what was done to us. To begin again. My family arrived in Canada in 1956 with almost nothing. Every year on this day I think about them, and about how much of what I have was built on their courage. To everyone fasting tonight and tomorrow, an easy and meaningful fast. G'mar chatima tova.

Thrilled for @trueventures to be backing @getcasa, who just announced their $27M raise. Casa's building something genuinely new: a personal property manager for your own home. Casa provides a dedicated team that knows your home deeply, handles the work, and is actually in your corner. Every other corner of modern life has been rebuilt by software. Homeownership is the one that got left behind. Casa is the layer underneath that finally fixes it. cc @mikemontano
After two years of building under wraps, today we're announcing Casa – your personal property manager. We've raised $27M to redefine the homeownership experience from the ground up. We believe your home is your most treasured asset, emotionally & financially. It shouldn't also be a second job. Most homeowners are on their own – expected to have the time, expertise, and relationships to keep things running. Finding a plumber you can trust. Remembering when the HVAC was last serviced. Knowing what's actually wrong before someone shows up to fix it. Casa gives every homeowner what used to be reserved for the few: a dedicated team that knows your home deeply, handles the work, and stays in your corner. We're enabling this by building a deep, technical understanding of every home we serve – something that's never existed before, across 100 million single-family homes in the country. For $199/mo, membership includes: - A complete inventory of your home, built using specialized hardware & software - 1.5 hours of handyman time every month (and it rolls over) - Unlimited Concierge requests to take on virtually any home project - Custom, proactive care plans built specifically for your home - Weekly package and donation pickups - Scheduling and payments for your regular vendors - Utility and property tax monitoring …and we’re just getting started, with more benefits on the way to make the experience of owning your home as magical as it always should have been. Available now in the SF Bay Area and Los Angeles. Reserve your spot everywhere else. → getcasa.com

The future of AI isn’t just enterprise tools. It’s seamless, invisible, and built into the little things people do every day.
Airbnb CEO @bchesky says more AI founders should be starting consumer businesses. "I'm on the board of Y Combinator. 87% of companies are enterprise companies per batch." "Enterprise is awesome... but the biggest prize is consumer. That is what's going to reach daily life for billions of people." "Think about all the little parts of daily life that are kind of annoying. Pay attention to whoever's in your life and ask: 'How could their daily life be a little bit easier?'"

2005: Accel is raising Fund IX- a significant reduction from $1.6B to $440 million. The dotcom bubble left scars everywhere. Social networking is dead. Friendster failed. Nobody wants to touch the category. Jim Breyer invests $12.7M into Facebook anyway in May 2005. VCs whisper it's embarrassing. "College kids will graduate and forget about it." 2011: Partial sales return the entire $440M fund. At IPO, the stake is worth billions. This is consumer investing. The category looks dead. The first movers crashed. Everyone moves on. Then the real winner shows up, and it's generational. The best investors back the 3rd, 5th, and 10th companies in a "doomed" space. They have conviction when everyone else has moved on. They understand consumer doesn't work until it suddenly does. Market timing is everything, except when it isn't.

Looking forward to holding a great event in NYC this evening on Verifying International AI Agreements, a very technically rich topic. We’ll have a keynote from @benharack, followed by discussion with @MauricBaker, @janet_e_egan, @jordanschneider, and @prpaskov. There are a few spots left for those interested and in NYC (link below).

Something’s in the air in San Francisco. I visited recently and felt a new energy pulsing through the city. It reminded me of tech’s heyday, with bustling streets, busy restaurants on every corner, and a lot of traffic. I had dinner with a few friends who live there (one of whom has been in SF for over 12 years), I got confirmation: the AI boom has COMPLETELY revived the city. OpenAI planting its flag in Silicon Valley has reignited the city, while competitors follow suit. Capital flows in VC have already surpassed past 2 years combined, just midway through the year. Obviously theres still seedy pockets and visible homelessness, but it’s noticeably improved since post-COVID, and I think the new mayor Daniel Lurie deserves credit for that. We toured some multifamily deals while in town and found units were getting pre-leased at asking rents without tenants, even stepping foot inside. I haven’t seen that kind of demand since the ZIRP era. From a development standpoint, new construction just doesn’t pencil right now. That’s true nationally, but in SF it’s even tougher, with union labor mandates, seismic requirements, and layers of local ordinances make it very hard to build. People love to write off California. But I don’t know… SF feels different right now. There’s something in the air, and for those willing to look past the headlines, I think there’s real opportunity.

I believe Garry when he says this. The % of YC companies @mavenvc has invested in that graduate from Seed to Unicorn is actually even higher. Here's what we're looking for in a YC investment: linkedin.com/feed/update/urn…
About 5% to 10% of companies in recent batches become worth a billion dollars or more and will make your fund I don’t think you can say that about your average Tuesday deal flow Martin

Investors always want to know how your idea is defensible. The truth? There is rarely defensibility. There is only speed.
Always expect a great idea to be ruthlessly copied. Ship as fast as possible.

People ask me a lot whether AI opens up opportunities in consumer. No question. Before AI, the fight for consumer minutes was nearly impossible against TikTok, Instagram/Reels, etc. The most successful recent consumer social company (BeReal) could barely get 2mins / DAU! Now, companion/friend AI co's like Character.ai, Talkie etc are getting **hours**. That says all you need to know. Exciting times. If you're building here, would love to meet. DMs are open :).
Too many startups/investors are exploring the b2b opportunities with LLMs and not enough are exploring the consumer opportunities. This is the moment consumer founders have been waiting for.
