After a week+ of SOTA (various pics over at mastodon.radio/@m0vfc/), tomorrow it's @rsgbiota time! I'm hoping to be active on 20/30/40m CW from Rathlin Island, EU-122. Only on foot, so I'm afraid QRP, but should be on air somewhere around 1000 to 1400 UTC as MI0VFC #hamr

Still watching to see what happens on this platform, but my callsign (M0VFC) on the Radio instance of The Other Place is me. (If the policy changes, I'll post actual link) As verification, this phrase is posted earlier from that account than here: neither-needle-noise-upon

The National Hamfest has a new home for 2023 - but hoping to still be there with @g3pye for the special event station!
“The organisers hope you enjoyed the 2022 National Hamfest. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2023 event which will be held at the East of England Showground, Peterborough on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th October 2023”

Today's fun has been gluing together @OctopusEnergy, Solcast, and my solar/battery inverter APIs. It simulates the likely import/export costs when charging and discharging from the grid at different times, and tries to find an optimum plan. Just in time for tomorrow evening!

I need to refine the model of my own usage - it currently assumes 5kWh evenly spread across the day, but I've not captured the historical data to improve that yet. Thanks to @Mi0VAX for the heads up that I could talk to the inverter over TCP, and saved me the RS485 bother!

It was great to be back at the Hamfest this year after a gap. I didn't have much time to get inside, but we had lots of conversations around the GB22NH station. Those who left saying "maybe I'll try that when I get home" were the best! Looking forward to next year 🙂

My QO-100 station didn't quite behave itself - thankfully @dnas2 bought his, which was actually used on air - but accidentally became an interesting talking point in its half-disassembled state, and we could compare and contrast the two approaches for folks new to the sat.

First contact on the QO-100 satellite from home! Lots of work still to do on the mechanical side, and frequency stability is a little more "artisan" than ideal. But I made some RFs, and they went into the sky and came back down! Thanks TF3VP :-)

Testing some of the @theRSGB Convention streaming tech before the weekend with @dnas2... fingers crossed!

Here's something not seen for a while: negative electricity prices! Batteries set to charge, A/C set to heat... It'll be my first grid-imported electricity since the start of March: solar + batteries have covered all my home electricity use for the last 7 months.

(If this seems totally bizarre in a world of crazy high energy prices: it's windy, night-time, at a weekend. Loads more renewable generation plus the ability to shift demand around with intelligent charging can enable this sort of thing more often.)

Apparently @OVHcloud's network firewall *by design* doesn't apply to traffic coming from other OVH-hosted servers. A firewall that can be bypassed by their 1.5 million other customers almost feels more dangerous than not offering a firewall at all - a false sense of security.

Worked on all summits by G4JNN, M0VCM, G6SXR and G6AEK. If we meet at the convention, beer (or alternative beverage) will be supplied for your persistence. Thanks to all who worked us, very much appreciated :)

Then just as we were on the homeward stretch, the sun came out? Should've had a lie in. Fin. 40km, 1632m of ascent, 3 SOTA activations. 9hrs 41min. Massive thanks to all the chasers who worked both of us, and especially those who hung around between summits.
