In all my years of making art I've never had a scorpion crawl across my canvas before! Making art out in the forests of Skiathos and the Wild Spirit keeps sending gifts... – at Thessaly, Greece

I left this painting, made in a ritual with the earth & sky, out on the mountain for a few nights, when I went to retrieve it the thunderstorm came. Using the painting to shelter me I ran down the mountain to take refuge in a goat shed where I could continue working on the piece – at Thessaly, Greece

On the Equinox I made a ritual to build a shrine to celebrate and welcome the new life of Springtime.   On a patch of woodland beside an industrial estate on the edge of the city where decades of discarded rubbish had accumulated amongst the silver birch trees.

...A process of composting: taking the old things that have gathered stories in so many places, exhibitions and encounters over the years and breaking them down like the fungal mycelium of the forest floor takes apart the dead to enable new life to emerge...

...So the recombined canvases hold stains, marks and images of making and decomposition. Ready for me to create on them afresh with the fractured stories and histories as fertile ground for renewed creative flow.

On Fairlight beach last summer I was meditating with the sea and an ocean goddess appeared to me. This is the painting I made there with detritus from the beach. She is wild and powerful and moves with the waxing/waning moon.

Had so many creative adventures in 2022. My friend asked me how I find them: By cultivating a heart open to possibilities, embracing the ridiculous, moving towards that which makes me uncomfortable & feels risky, & when I set off down a path: give everything without holding back

The reality to which the artist and the mystic are exposed is, in fact, the same. It is of their own inmost truth brought to consciousness: by the mystic, in direct confrontation, and by the artist, through reflection in the masterworks of his art.~Joseph Campbell
