Wassailing at the tree nursery yesterday. Mild weather, mulled apple and cider, lovely cakes, and joyous singing.

Yesterday's volunteer morning was the 6th of the year, time is flying! We are already halfway through the year, how time is flying! Usual activities took place including bramble “bashing” and creating new hedges on the woodland boundaries. Flowers are thriving at the moment.

My neighbours and I (8 people in total) asked RBG if we could opt out of glyphosate spraying on a 95 metre stretch of our street. We are committed to manually weeding ourselves and collaborating fully with the Council in a pilot scheme. It’s great that the Cabinet Member agreed to communicate with GGCN so here’s hoping for a favourable response. Surely there’s no harm in trying.
GGCN await promised meeting with Cllr @averil_lekau to discuss opt-out scheme in Greenwich. IT IS POSSIBLE - see what Redbridge have done! Redbridge - Adopt a Tree Pit and Pollinator Pathways  #stopglyphosate #optoutglyphosate @FIMAC10 @BELLEGREENWICH @Royal_Greenwich

So, you’ve seen Morris dance on the news this week and thought that looks fun and good exercise. Tonight, why not come along to Greenwich Morris practice @MycenaeHouse from 8pm. Have you got the bells?

With full support from my neighbours I'm hoping we can now opt out of glyphosate spraying along a 95 metre stretch of wall. Apart from the negative environmental impact of this product we think it pointless to waste our council tax money on spraying bits of grass and moss. Contractors I have spoken to do not really know how to recognise what is a weed and what is not (certainly no Japanese knotweed here!!) and they even think a small tuft of grass is a weed & must be eradicated! And if these bits of greenery are deemed a hazard it's very simple to dig them up, something I've offered to do for the whole of my street. Please can the Council listen to residents like they pledge to do in their many social media comments and a consultation? They have even asked for our opinion in a new budget consultation so again, please can they consider costs of spraying our pavements and instead focus on fly tipping? #ListentoLocals @Listen_toLocals

Good morning everyone! Don't forget that tomorrow, Sunday the 7th of January, is the first Westcombe Woodlands volunteer morning of 2024! As usual, our meeting point will be at the new gate at the western end of the Seren Park car park at about 9.50am.
