If we genuinely want to create thriving communities rather than simply hit housing targets, infrastructure must stop being viewed as a secondary consideration building.co.uk/comment/ambit…

FT (£) “The mayor’s target of building roughly 55,000 homes a year is a fantasy. While this is less than the government’s goal of 88,000 — a total not built in Greater London’s area since 1871 — The housing plan for London is no plan at all” ft.com/content/b83b0edc-0ea9… via @ft

I’m absolutely delighted this was resolved very quickly. Thank you @Royal_Greenwich for such a rapid response.
And to say that Fix My Street has proven to be super effective! Download the app @fixmystreet - very easy to use.
"Like many in property, I’m often shocked by the quality of public knowledge about planning. For example, try asking a friend outside the industry about Section 106. Most will look entirely blank, or mix it up with Room 101, that celebrity show focused on banishing irksome things" propertyweek.com/insight/lea…

🏘️Community-led housing solutions can deliver high densities in our towns and cities.
In 2016, eight households on Hafer Road in Wandsworth redesigned their cramped post-war terrace together and rebuilt it as 16 homes, with nearly triple the floorspace.
This is a little intro to the Mayor's most wide-ranging strategy document, along with links to pieces about it by other people I've published at OnLondon and a podcast with the London Society: davehillonlondon.substack.co… You don't get this kind of stuff elsewhere. Please subscribe.

I went to go see a new build development a few weeks back- bit unfair to call it that, though, as there’s been a massive amount of (what I suppose is) landscaping and care ploughed into it.
This was one of the cheaper homes*, and the street it sat in.
We can genuinely just do things like this. It just takes care.
I’m going back in a week or two to meet the development team. I’ll report (somewhere) on why and how you can do high quality housing without needing to charge the earth.
*costs c10% less than a similar Taylor Wimpey home in a development 15 miles away.

Wow, Common Sense. Croydon Council seem to get things right more than other Councils. Anyone know why ?

it doesn't have to be zero-sum -- why not build data centres that heat homes like they're doing at @oldoakparkroyal or heat swimming pools like @OctopusEnergy is doing with @DeepGreenEnergy bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj20…
