I’ve great respect for Bostrom and Harris on many topics. But on AI, their collaboration more than a decade ago amplified a mistaken philosophy and flawed epistemology that set the scene for much of the conversation today. Remarks on that and more: youtu.be/EM_dW-zJk0Q

Relativism: No civilization is better than another.
Postmodernism: Truth is just power.
Guilt: Apologize for both. Rubio stood where democracy was born and rejected all three.
We believe that the West can awaken from its long slumber – and rekindle the fire that was first lit in ancient Greece millennia ago.

Children forget what they are painfully forced to memorise. No one mentions this except accidentally in side-remarks about something else. Not facing that fact conceals the enormity of the waste, hurt and harm done by the bucket theory of the mind.

His “failure to see what was coming”. The grammar is telling. Not what *is* coming. What was, so no longer “is”? In any case, those who can see what specific new knowledge was/is coming are rare indeed! Maybe his course will change the future back again or to something better? Or worse? 😉

The great @stephen_wolfram is optimistic about pure mathematics in the age of ever better AI. A person is always needed. Like “Mathematica”, LLMs are a tool that mathematicians should find useful as an opportunity: not a threat.

This capitulation is to be complicit in the false theory which turns use of technology into a medical issue. Absurd. They should have fought. Or shrugged.
Meta will enforce a two-hour daily limit on Instagram and Facebook for children as part of a record $17.1B settlement with 29 states over social media addiction claims: • The “Productive Pauses” for children include mandatory pauses after 15 minutes of continuous use and again at 60 and 90 minutes to interrupt endless scrolling • “Nighttime blocks” restricting children’s access from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. • Limited school-time access for children, eliminating push notifications on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the school year • Robust age assurance measures to more effectively verify the age of young users • Safer, age-appropriate content controls, including stronger safeguards against bullying, content promoting eating disorders, and content related to suicide and self-harm • Stronger, more user-friendly parental controls • Limits on social comparison features, including beauty filters and visible “like” counts, that have been linked to poor mental health outcomes in kids and teens • Both the implementation and effectiveness of the features will be regularly assessed by an independent auditor and the settling states variety.com/2026/digital/new…

"If you've ever thought the many-worlds...is fundamentally untestable...think again..." Yes!
My talk at the Royal Institution about "5 ways to test the multiverse" is now out on YouTube! If you've ever thought the many-worlds theory of quantum mechanics is fundamentally untestable — it's time to think again. Along the way we cover the fundamentals of quantum science and frontiers of quantum tech, including superposition, entanglement, quantum computing and more. Link below 👇

Authoritarians don’t give up: abc.net.au/news/2026-06-25/a… Our government, recognising the ban isn’t working, are doubling down. We are the test case and my latest guess is they won’t stop until tech companies are either fully or partially nationalised or simply shut down:

“…his project stands as a philosophical inversion of everything Popper defended.” Indeed! Who cares if Soros personally knew Popper or studied his work? That’s all utterly irrelevant.
The open society and its enemy, Soros. While he named his Open Society Foundations after Karl Popper’s “The Open Society and Its Enemies,” his project stands as a philosophical inversion of everything Popper defended. Popper’s open society rested on critical rationalism, the recognition that no one possesses final truth, that institutions must remain open to criticism and piecemeal reform, and that democracy functions as a method for removing rulers without bloodshed. He rejected historicism, the belief in iron laws of history that justify sacrificing present generations for a utopian future, and warned that such thinking inevitably produces closed, authoritarian societies. Soros has repurposed the label to advance a grand project of engineered demographic transformation. Through mass immigration, multiculturalism as official policy, and diversity mandates that prioritize group identity over individual merit and assimilation, his foundations actively dissolve the cultural continuity and social trust that make rational criticism and incremental change possible. Popper understood that openness requires a stable framework, a shared language of reason, basic cohesion, and institutions citizens feel they collectively own. Soros treats those foundations as obstacles to be overcome in the name of an abstract, borderless openness. The concrete results are visible. Parallel societies that operate under different norms, public spaces where debate on the scale and selection of immigration is treated as illegitimate, and the rise of identity based hierarchies that close off dissent in the name of equity. These are certainly not expansions of the open society, but new forms of closure, tribal in character, enforced through institutional capture rather than overt dictatorship, yet hostile to the very critical spirit Popper placed at the center of civilized life. Philosophically, Soros replaces Popper’s falsification and humility before reality with a new historicism, the conviction that global multiculturalism and open borders represent inevitable moral progress, and that resistance from actual existing communities constitutes the new enemy. The machinery funded in the name of openness does not test its own assumptions against evidence, it suppresses the questions. Those who still value the ideal of an open society should read Popper on their own terms. They will find that Soros has not extended the open society, but has supplied its most sophisticated contemporary enemies.

Is the FBI suddenly a reformed institution simply because Trump's in office? Is the CIA suddenly a reformed institution simply because Trump's in office? Is the US government suddenly "reformed" simply because Trump's in office? And the answer to all three questions: NO.

All knowledge is unified but there remain important differences too. Eg: studying formal logic to a high level won’t necessarily help you think more clearly in general:
My understanding of the physics of light does not in any way enable me to be able to explain how light should be used in a painting in order to either make it look more realistic or to convey a certain mood or feeling. That is a whole different type of knowledge. @ToKTeacher

I saw Disclosure Day in hopes it would enthrall like most Spielberg films, and I love good alien movies (Day the Earth Stood Still, 2001, Close Encounters, Contact, etc), but don't waste your time. Great acting (Emily Blunt is fabulous) but: —weak plot —car/train chases/fights feel superfluous —little suspense (you know "disclosure" is coming) —lame ending & tired theme that "they" don't want the world to know aliens are here: in this case it's not the government but a private company improbably named Wardex that must kill the man about to reveal the Big Secret but whose ex-nun girlfriend insists he must not because people will stop believing in God. Colin Firth's Wardex CEO character explains that the geo-political balance of the world will also be disrupted by disclosure (how & why this would happen is not explained, although apparently N Korea is about to launch a nuke). —Aliens first appear as animals who stare at humans: deer, a fox, a raccoon & a moose, apparently directed by red cardinals, who also plant an alien being inside Emily Blunt's character who then talks gibberish on TV. —At the end the aliens are disclosed to be bipedal great apes with bulbous heads & big eyes (as seen in most bad alien flicks), which is highly unlikely: there are 8 great ape species on Earth out of ~8 million species = 0.000001. —I will admit, if the UFO Files ever reveal actual footage of the many crashed aliens in history (why do they always crash after traversing the vast distances of interstellar space?) like those shown in the film, or we get to actually see the alien bodies and crashed saucers hidden by the government (or the equivalent of Wardex, like Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies), I will adjust my priors and update my credence on ETIs. youtu.be/icDuEHSxE-w
