In this study, a large repeat expansion in a noncoding part of FGF14 was found to cause late-onset cerebellar ataxia, which underscores the importance of noncoding regions in the search for causes of disease. nej.md/3UTPDNI
#Halloween is usually filled with skeletons—but what about skeletal muscle? This tissue is organized into elongated and aligned myofibers which, according to 2021 research, can self-repair after localized damage. Learn more in this #SciencePerspective: scim.ag/mL

I'm really enjoying using Obsidian notes to organize my thoughts for my projects. It's intuitive and lets you connect all the pieces together in a way that's not linear, and it's incredibly easy to personalize including with community plugins.

I'm NOT an organized person, in fact I'm pretty scatterbrained, but it's letting me pretend like I might be. If the organization tool isn't easy I'm not using it!
Happy to announce that I passed my defence today!! 🎉 🥳

Seems unreal that it's my last day in lab before I defend tomorrow- and here I am, still doing experiments! 😱

Very cool to see what's being done to work towards stem cells as therapies today at #HGSSConference2022 . Satellite cell transplants are particularly interesting to me, it's just such a cool way to harness regenerative capacity to combat degenerative muscle disease.

I'm at my first in person conference since 2019, feels a bit strange! The human genetics student society is holding one on gene and cell therapies.

I'm realizing I've been in my department so long that I hardly recognize anyone because most of the people I started with are graduated now.

I was hoping to get this abstract written quickly this morning but I feel like something is really slowing me down 🤔

I just want to share how cool micropatterned coverslips are, they're one of the neatest things in my toolkit. A normal cell will reorganize its cytoskeleton in response to the changes in tension caused by the different patterns. Both cells are fibroblasts.

The topic of "stupid questions" came up today in conversation. I think that yes, stupid questions are a thing, and you should ask them and foster an environment where they can be asked! #AcademicTwitter #phdchat #AcademicChatter

Those things that everyone assumes is common knowledge, things that seem "self-evident" or logical, small potentially inconsequential details- ask questions about them when you need to! You might be surprised by the answers you get and what you learn.

I got through my PhD by asking stupid questions shamelessly and frequently. I'm an annoyance, but I'm a smarter annoyance for it. And I always try to answer every stupid question I'm asked- even if the answer may seem simple to me.
