We are deeply saddened to share the news that Perry Mehrling passed away this morning at the age of 67.
Perry was the father of the Young Scholars Initiative. He believed profoundly in young scholars, in their ideas, and in the importance of creating a community in which they could learn from one another and find their own voices.
Perry, you leave an enormous hole in our midst. Our hearts are aching, and we will miss you dearly.
The YSI community will carry your legacy forward. Your ideas, your generosity, and your commitment to generations of young scholars will remain with us.
Thank you for everything, Perry.

Today, we're publishing BIP SHRINCS, the first concrete proposal for a post-quantum signature scheme designed specifically for Bitcoin.
The BIP draft turns what began as a rough idea into exact algorithms with an executable reference implementation.
This is an important milestone: the discussion can now focus on analyzing, criticizing, and improving a concrete proposal.
The BIP makes choices ranging from major design questions, such as whether to support flexible XMSS and how to balance signature size against verification time, to the many smaller decisions involved in saving a byte here or there.
All of these choices are up for debate.
Big thanks to Mike Casey, @conduition, @Ethan_Heilman, @kudinov_mikhail, @olkurbatov, Boris Nagaev, and @remix7531 for their contributions to the BIP.
A lot more work lies ahead:
- The draft BIP specifies only the cryptography. Using SHRINCS in Bitcoin Script will require a separate BIP.
- We are working on a security proof for the exact construction and parameters.
- Wallet integration and user experience, for example around backups and recovery after state loss, are still at an early stage. The design space remains wide open.
SHRINCS is not intended to be Bitcoin's "final" signature scheme, and it is not optimal along every axis.
I do think it is a very good trade-off among the options we have now.

Turns out that with enough math a counterparty can do multisig in a Lightning channel without changing the protocol: eprint.iacr.org/2026/1757

Multi-vendor multisig demo👇
One multisig, five different hardware vendors, connected five different ways all on mobile:
✅ @Ledger (Bluetooth)
✅ @Trezor (Bluetooth)
✅ @BlockstreamJade (QR)
✅ @FoundationHQ Passport (QR)
✅ @TwentyTwoHW Portal (NFC)
No single point of failure. Built on open standards. Everything stays end-to-end encrypted through the whole setup, and there’s a built-in E2EE chat for coordinating group setups.
Works whether you’re setting it up for yourself or splitting keys across a few people. All keys can be geographically distributed.
@KeystoneWallet, @SeedSigner, @selfcustodykrux, @TAPSIGNER also work.
@BitBoxSwiss and @satochip on mobile coming soon.

An acquaintance of mine intentionally left a small amount of bitcoin in a ColdCard MK4 RNG created seed phrase (that was originally a "duress" wallet) to see when it might get swept. Last night it got swept to bc1qzm5pauxyv7t7vqstzpumqcn066wfjsmev34mf3.
So at this point any RNG generated seedphrase on any ColdCard product is under active attack. Move quickly if you're exposed.

Statism wears many uniforms, but its method never changes: manufacture a crisis, suspend neutral rules, seize economic rights, and call theft justice.
Civilizations rot from within when factions capture the law. Bitcoin will rot the same way if factions capture consensus.

Most of the ecosystem (wallets, exchanges, apps) no longer uses Bitcoin technology.
The surrender wasn't supporting stablecoins; it was letting EVM own the infrastructure that moves them.
That created a disincentive to maintain and adopt future BTC tech.
Jack Dorsey just admitted Block is "reluctantly" supporting stablecoins after years of insisting bitcoin should be the internet's native money
this is a bitcoin purist surrendering to market reality in real time on the record
and I respect the honesty
because he's right that bitcoin should be the native money protocol
and the market is right that stablecoins are what people actually use for payments right now
but the stablecoins are the trojan horse
every stablecoin wallet is a future bitcoin on-ramp
every person who gets comfortable holding USDT is one step away from holding bitcoin
the infrastructure that moves dollars moves bitcoin
Dorsey is watching the adoption path take a detour through stablecoins before arriving at bitcoin anyway
he'd rather be the wallet people use for BOTH than the wallet that only works for the final destination that nobody's ready for yet

$1,000,000 was settled over the Lightning Network. On January 28th history was made.
We just powered the first publicly reported $1M Lightning transaction between @SD_Markets and @krakenfx in .47 seconds.
The future of institutional Bitcoin settlement is here.
Lightning got boxed in early. "It's for micropayments." That narrative stuck, but it was only ever part of the story.
Lightning is settling million-dollar transactions today. It's time the world sees this network for what it actually is.
This is only the beginning.
Bitcoin moving at the speed it was meant to.
