Need a small, independent multisig key? That's a very good job for TAPSIGNER.

Multisig people: back up the wallet descriptor too. A pile of keys is not a wallet policy.

Changed the factory PIN? Good. Stored the new PIN with the card? Not so good.

Your PIN authorizes the card. The printed backup key handles recovery. Two different secrets. Treat them that way.
174
No seed words here. Recovery uses an encrypted backup file plus the separate key printed on the card. Keep them apart.

COLDCARD offers two dice workflows. Standard Dice Rolls combines your rolls with device entropy. Dice Rolls Only derives the seed entirely from your rolls, with minimums of 50 rolls for 12 words or 99 for 24. coldcard.com/docs/master-see…

Back up your TAPSIGNER before you fund it. Future you will appreciate the two minutes.

New card day? Pair it. Back it up. Change the PIN. Send a small test transaction. Then add real funds.

During normal signing, your phone gets a signature—not the unencrypted master XPRV. The key stays on the card.

TAPSIGNER is screenless. Check the address, amount and fee in your wallet before you tap.

Signing a transaction should feel intentional. Review. Tap. PIN. Done.

COLDCARD is yours to verify, modify, and run. 👨‍💻 Learn how to change the open-source firmware, test it in the simulator, build a development-key DFU for Mk4/Mk5 or Q, and install it on a dedicated device. blog.coinkite.com/build-run-…

Wallet builds the transaction. You check it. TAPSIGNER signs it. That's the whole idea.

I'm legitimately going to just keep using my Coldcard at this point. And that's as much of an indictment of literally everything else as much as it is a statement about the Coldcard. Everything else in this space is such a shitshow.

Your Bitcoin key doesn't need to live on your phone. Keep it on TAPSIGNER. Tap when you want to sign.

Forward looking, for Bitcoin self-custody, Multi-Vendor Multi-DeviceType Multi-Sig is the only way. Collaborative custody if needed. I'm a big fan of @nunchuk_io. It has mobile and desktop apps. What I love about it is that it easily visually forces you to understand the difference between a Key and a Wallet, which is a great UX. Best of all it's free and also it's non KYC. You can for example make a 4 of 7 wallet with it using @TAPSIGNER, @Trezor, Jade, Passport, even with a firmware upgraded ColdCard. I love Tapsigners cause they are very easy to use and teach to beginners and can be easy for your family for inheritance purpose if used wisely in multisig with timelocks. I also just discovered @BitcoinKeeper_, which looks even better than Nunchuck for free, with easy features like Wallet TimeLock, Emergency Key, Inheritance Key. Will make a video about this soon for anyone interested!
