“balance in literacy.” It’s necessary that kids weave and fuse reading rope threads, not become highly proficient in one area to the exclusion of others so understanding instructional recalibration leading to this “balance,” & not tipping too far in one direction. Makes sense.

A little literacy nugget exploring the relationship between letter recognition & handwriting. A stellar @GleanEducation podcast w/Dr. Mohr sharing findings, the research article, & free handwriting resources. A nugget that bridges research to practice. bit.ly/3Jahh2U

CONFER! Every day. I try to see 6-8 students in every writing period (in some combination of one-to-one, small group, and/or partnership conferences). The individual or sm. group teaching is based on goals decided upon in conversation with the student(s). #ILAchat

Today’s Poolside PD includes a powerful statement for reflection...”The first five minutes of class are golden.” Do we spend it going over homework or getting students exciting about learning? Are we talking AT the students or WITH the students? 🙌🏽 @jmattmiller @alicekeeler

Correlational research is often misleading...I suspect your best readers enjoy reading. Instead of expecting kids out if school practice to save the day, figure out what teachers can best do to teach kids to read better.
Our research shows that when children enjoy reading, they do better at school. There’s no better way to keep your child’s development going over the summer holidays than reading! wordsforlife.org.uk/summer-h…

English Ts, are you a Book Love devotee? Are you trying to figure out how to make IR accountability/assessment meaningful for Ss? Want to try a structure (w/coaching by me) that promotes JOY & GROWTH rather than compliance & coercion? @HeinemannPub @ncte @pennykittle @KellyGToGo
