sure ignore is probably too strong a word. My analogy is just leaky abstraction perhaps :-)

We love hyperstack.org Why? 1. Write your components in Ruby instead of jsx 2. Directly access your AR models from your components 3. Setup in one command 4. Works well with new and existing apps 5. 1/4 the lines of code needed 6. Use react libs m.youtube.com/watch?v=GEe7hH…
Keep in mind doc is lagging, if u find any glitches please let us know!

Exactly the same with hs components.

Performance is tricky. HS components are initially rendered on server, then continue to update on the client. A lot of thought was put into making sure that as much work was off loaded from the server to the client, especially when doing pushes of active record updates.

I think the stuff that Hyperstack does is really cool. However, it is dependencies outside of the Rails core which is fine, but does speak to the original point that deviating from the Rails core can make maintaining and updating Rails apps to newer versions more difficult.

I c! One goal of hyperstack.org has always been compatibility with rails & working within rails, even on complex brownfield sites. Upgrading from 4 to 5 and soon 6 has not been an issue. This is true of lots of other gems not part of rails but key to the eco system.
Your pick on the last Ruby Rogues is going to be the future of Rails. ActionView::Components will change the game. Bundled with Turbolinks, Stimulus, ActionCable and Rails UJS, there is no need for frameworks like Vue/React in the Rails ecosystem.

Hey sorry but I don’t get it. We’ve been doing this for years, with pure ruby (no erb or other templates) with less code, easier to understand logic, and better user experience . Can anyone explain why this is better than hyperstack.org

My father passed this morning. Going home (from work trip) tomorrow. Wondering if it's ok to have a drink (strict diet day)

I’m so sorry. He must have been a great guy to have such a great son.

For some reason I really want to learn @rails this year. Especially after discovering react_on_rails by @shakacode. github.com/shakacode/react_o…

People like it this way I think. For years we have defragging by using one language and one integrated full stack framework hyperstack.org no new invention just existing pieces integrated. Works good for us.

Looking for a solution to access @heroku config variable from a @reactjs app that is nested in a @rails app. The React app was generated with @createreactapp. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I should have specified, I generated the Rails app as api only.

per my previous reply, this should work fine with rails API only. need any further info feel free to DM me
Try hyper-spec fully integrated isomorphic rspecs. hyperstack.org
Create an erb file in the rails side. It can be the app/assets/javascript dir i.e myvar.js.erb Use erb to capture the env var as a js global, add that js file to your requires in application.js

I’m going to start posting occasional updates on the current book, which is about Rails 6, Webpacker, Stimulus, and React. Current draft is at page 112 of what will probably be 250-275, but there’s been some monkeying with the outline, so some of the draft needs restructuring.

Love your books, but is Rails still relevant? Webpack and React don’t benefit much from a Rails environment afaik??

Woah? Rails is a great backend. React is a great front end. They work together. hyperstack.org integrates them together and replaced JSX with an elegant ruby DSL.
This is how we started a long journey of migrating a rails app(@ForemanProject ) to react in the places it made sense..still got a long way to go...

have you heard of hyperstack.org ? We also had a large rails app with complex UI, that we wanted to migrate to React. Hyperstack makes it sooo easy.
