Today in Wainwright with @dckurek, I met with Mayor Bruce Pugh, Fire Chief Aime Smyl, Deputy Fire Chief Wade Pillman, MLA Garth Rowswell and Reeve Mike Wildeboer of the MD of Wainwright to hear directly from the people leading this community through the tragedy at CFB Wainwright.
Our hearts are with the families of the service members we lost, and with everyone injured and still fighting for their lives. These are men and women who put on the uniform to protect our country. Their families deserve our prayers and our support.
To the firefighters, paramedics, nurses, doctors and soldiers who ran toward the fire and worked through the night: thank you. Wainwright and its base have always been critically interlinked. In the worst of moments, this community showed exactly who it is.
Conservatives will stand with Wainwright, our troops, and their families for as long as it takes.

The Royal Canadian Legion sends deep condolences and offers help and support to families after multiple fatalities and injuries at CFB Wainwright, an army training base in Alberta. These brave members have given their lives in service to Canada. Our flags will fly at half-mast in Remembrance.

The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Poppy Campaign is set to launch soon, on October 24 - a new permanent date going forward. New and returning initiatives will highlight this year’s period of Remembrance, right up until November 11.
“Each year, Canadians step up with amazing support for the National Poppy Campaign,” says Sharon McKeown, Dominion President. “Their generosity and caring are what allow us to host a range of programs and support initiatives for our Veterans and their families across the country.”

My message to the 68,000 Canadians who lost their jobs last month: Conservatives will fight for you.
Our Economic Action Plan will boost hiring and save jobs. We will unblock resources, scrap taxes on fuel and reinvestments here at home, remove red tape, and make Canada the best place in the world to hire and boost pay.
Saving money and jobs.

Three years ago today, the world witnessed the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Families were torn apart, children kidnapped, women assaulted, and the elderly slaughtered: some 809 civilians were killed, while 252 would endure captivity as hostages.
In January, the last body of the hostages killed was finally returned following the return of the last living hostage last year. The return offered some closure to the conflict as the last body was laid to rest, but we know the scourge of antisemitism is not over.
The hatred that fueled October 7th did not remain on foreign shores. Right here in Canada, far too many synagogues, Jewish businesses and institutions have been the targets of harassment and hate.
This is not, and cannot become, normal. Conservatives will always fight against antisemitism and all forms of hatred: protecting our schools, communities and places of worship so that Canadians of all faiths can live in peace and security.
Today, alongside our Jewish friends and neighbours, we remember those who lost their lives that day. May their memory be a blessing.

For generations, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit carried forward their languages, cultures, and traditions across this land.
Residential schools were a massive intrusion of government coercion imposed on Indigenous families. They removed children from their parents and communities, while attempting to break their connection to their very identity.
On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour these children, their families and their communities, and recommit to reconciliation built on self-determination, opportunity, and true partnership.

Constable Jeff Smith put his life on the line to protect worshippers at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville yesterday, on Yom Kippur.
We thank him for his bravery and pray for his swift and full recovery.
Jewish families in Canada must be able to worship and live free from terror, violence, or intimidation.

Tonight, Jewish communities across Canada and around the world mark Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, with prayer, fasting, and reflection.
As Jewish Canadians face rising antisemitism, we remain steadfast in defending their freedom to pray, worship, and live without fear.

This emergency response team in Penticton helped coordinate the evacuation of Summerland as wildfires threatened the town this summer.
Their determination and calm under pressure helped thousands get to safety.
Canada is grateful to them. We must ensure they always have the resources they need to protect Canadians when emergencies strike.

25 years later, Beulah Cooper still reminds us what it means to serve others.
When 38 planes were diverted to Gander on 9/11, the Legion in Gander opened its doors, becoming a place of refuge for 67 passengers from one of those flights.
Beulah was there, bringing food, helping stranded travellers connect with loved ones and opening her own home to those in need.
It’s a story of compassion, community and service. And we’re proud that the Legion was there. 🇨🇦
The small town of Gander in the Canadian province of Newfoundland saw its population virtually double when U.S. airspace was closed on 9/11, grounding 38 international flights on an island in the Atlantic Ocean.
For five days, Newfoundlanders gave shelter and comfort to 7,000 stranded passengers and crew members. @conorknighton talks with Newfoundlanders who volunteered during the emergency, whose generosity to the "plane people" inspired the Broadway musical @wecomefromaway.

To everyone facing dangerous flooding in Cape Breton and eastern Nova Scotia: Canadians are with you.
I want to thank all first responders and emergency crews working in these difficult conditions, and we call on the federal government to assist the province and municipalities with any resources they need to protect people and communities.
Please stay safe and look out for your neighbours.

Lake Ontario is and will always be Lake Ontario, and no executive order will change that. It doesn't belong to President Donald Trump to rename on a whim.
Our two countries have real trade issues that impact our people. Instead of responding to stunts and distractions, Canadians must stay focused on what we can control: making our economy strong and affordable at home and using our leverage to fight tariffs abroad.

Raitt "But I do agree with the Conservatives that it would be very helpful to have a very coherent session with media, with Parliament, from the trade negotiators at a table being able to answer questions as to what was on the table, what was not on the table and what caused the decision to happen."
"I think we have learned lessons to come out of it. I don't think it's really helpful we with people trying to read between the lines and seek US Sources of information to get their side of the story out as opposed to having our officials. I want to hear it."
"... I'd like to hear it from Janice Charrette and I'd like to hear it from Dominic LeBlanc, and I think that they could handle a press conference detailing what happened at the table without divulging any Canadian strategy secrets." @lraitt
