Agree 💯
For all the trail and tribulations. Criticism fair or not.
We have to do what we can to make sure @RF08 don’t follow suit.
Teams like Palace and Boro go against the grain in England and there isn’t many that do.
Let’s make sure Boro doesn’t become sterile like the rest

So it turns out that Southampton LIED to the commission initially. Paragraph 25 of the ruling makes this very clear. And it makes this statement even more hollow and meaningless. What a despicable football club.

My good friend Tom, who’s a Saints fan, messaged me on Monday, saying he’d seen Twitter and was gutted: “we’ve gone from being everyone’s favourite second club to everyone hates us”. I don’t think they were quite that loved before and I don’t think they’re quite so hated now. But admitting to cheating is a big deal in professional sport and that club needs to take action - visible action - to show they’ve stamped it out. I’m glad the EFL has acted; cheats shouldn’t prosper.
I feel genuinely sorry for the Saints fans. They had no idea and it must be gutting to look at that amazing 19-game run and now realise that some / a lot / all of those games were as a result of cheating.
I don’t know about the players. I’d feel a lot less negative about them if Harwood-Bellis hadn’t taunted Morris with his binoculars signs last Tuesday (amongst other classless acts). If any of you knew about this, shame on you.
Some in the management and coaching team - maybe lots of them, maybe all of them - are responsible. They should have the book thrown at them. The young lad Will Salt is not completely blameless (he’s old enough to know what’s right and wrong) but categorically should not be carrying the can. If Southampton had any class as a club, they should be giving him some support to be sure he is OK. It’s a lot to be on his shoulders and he doesn’t deserve that. Will, this might be terrible now, but it will pass.
There’s been a lot of back and forth between the fans on twitter this week. I’ve got no beef with Saints fans. We’ll likely be playing each other next season; if not, the season after. I’ll be inviting my mate Tom and his lad to the Riverside next time, as I did in Jan. As fans to fans, let’s hope it all calms down. The main thing is: let’s be glad that admitted cheating does have consequences. That’s a really good thing for this sport, and for the Championship: the best league in the world.
I’ll enjoy Saturday, whatever happens. Hull was my favourite away trip of this season (not just for the score!). Really great fans - one walked with me from my hotel bar to the away turnstiles to be sure I knew where I was going, and all night they were great. If you go up, well done, and deserved. If we do, ditto. Whichever, we’ll do it fair.
