I took CS as my major in the mid 90s and benefited greatly from that one choice. But if I were starting today, I'd likely take bio with CS as a minor.

Such an important thread for startups going from 10-100+!!
As startups grow there is extremely strong pull into what I call the death spiral of bullshit. More people -> more teams -> more buy-in required -> more meetings -> being persuasive rewarded more than building -> builders leave -> nothing gets done

100% agree..
Buzzfeed raised a total of ~$700M on its way to going public and did $398M in revenue in 2021. Its current market cap is ~$240M. Media is a brutal business.

We are going to get better and happier once we start recognizing that we will never be sure of the future, so quit trying to be right about the future but keep calibrating our beliefs little by little to get an accurate, objective view of the world. ctto- Annie Duke!!

If you look around your organization, you’ll be able to distinguish the missionaries from the mercenaries. It’s fine to have talented mercenaries on the team, they will work hard when properly motivated. But when building a leadership team, always hire and promote missionaries.
