The indefinite hunger strike by JNU students, now in its 17th day, and the deteriorating health of the participants demand urgent intervention.
Yesterday, I wrote to the Hon’ble President of India, in her capacity as Visitor of JNU, and the Union Education Minister, urging immediate action to revoke the unjust rustication of elected JNUSU representatives, withdraw the objectionable provisions of the CPO Manual, and resolve the students’ outstanding grievances.
As a former student of JNU, I am deeply concerned by the present situation. A university that nurtured debate and dissent must not punish them. Its democratic traditions must be preserved, and its students’ voices deserve to be heard, not silenced.

A suspicious, dense object flagged by an X-ray machine at Delhi Metro’s Jama Masjid station triggered a dramatic CISF intervention. When challenged during inspection, the passenger allegedly tried to flee but was caught.
A semi-solid substance was found concealed in a stitched portion of his undergarments. The man claimed to be an NRI residing in Kuala Lumpur. The substance remains unidentified, and its nature and purpose are yet to be established.
