These 32 #BloodBikes commemorate the 32 people killed on Bloor, Yonge & University in 20-years before bike lanes were built. After bike lanes were installed only one tragic loss of life has occurred in 6-years since 2020. Bike lanes keep EVERYONE save, not only people cycling.

First Clef, now Clairic. Clef picks from options you give it. Clairic extracts values from a receipt photo, a support email, or a CSV of daily counts. You get typed answers with confidence scores in one forward pass, without generating output tokens. Use them ahead of an LLM and you can keep the raw input away from the model writing the reply. It gets the extracted values, not the original email. Great work by @michellechen and the Workers AI team. In preview now, with open weights coming soon.

Same offer from @Cloudflare. 100 free passes to Cloudflare Connect in SF this week for folks with cancelled GHC registrations. Email [email protected]. First come first serve.
We still want to find a way to bring the community together. If you planned to be in California for the Grace Hopper Celebration, I invite you to join us this year for GitHub Universe, Oct 28-29. 🌉 We've set aside 75 complimentary passes for folks with cancelled registrations. While this doesn't replace the conference and Universe has far fewer attendees than GHC, my hope is that it does give folks an opportunity to connect with each other. 📷 DM the GitHub team on LinkedIn or email me at [email protected] (first come first serve).

And apparently Sim concededs Congratulations Pete Fry
Looking like Pete Fry (GRN) will win the Vancouver mayoral election, barring a massive shift in the votes that are yet to come in

Canada blowing the AI race catastrophically when we basically invented the tech over at UofT & UdeM is like 1000 Avro Arrows. The solution to this isn’t luddism though! Put some basic regs on land/resource usage + no direct subsidies and call it a day, we have catching up to do
We should provide exactly zero funding for this AI garbage

North American city planners, if they ran an airline: “Every seat on the plane should be first class. If you want to fit smaller economy-class seats into the plane you need to pay an extra density fee because you might inconvenience the existing first class passengers”

Ahem. For those who may be unaware, Montreal is a cold *winter* city. Colder and snowier than Toronto. And it now ranks 2nd among the world’s best cycling cities. So don't even. momentummag.com/montreal-ran…

Not a surprise AI wants to go back home
Asked chatGPT where he'd want to live if he was a person. Explicitly told it to not use memory or make any assumptions about my opinion. Doubt it listened fully.

Most road widenings happened with 0 public input. Trucks just showed up in the middle of the night and bulldozed sidewalks to add a few traffic lanes because traffic engineers said so. Now, when we want those lanes converted back to sidewalks or bike lanes, it requires 15 public meetings, coordination between 5 different city agencies, and special one-on-one meetings with NIMBYs. And it still might not happen because that NIMBY knows people in city hall.

We displaced hundreds of thousands of people and razed most urban cores in this country for highways, but high speed rail and bike/bus lanes are too disruptive for us today.

Agents write code faster than CI can check it. GitHub Actions minutes are up 4x. Anthropic's CI job volume grew 25x in 6 months. @dbworku thinks CI as we know it doesn't survive.
