Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur will remain closed to visitors on October 22 and 23 following confirmation of #H5N1 avian influenza infection in water birds at the zoo by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (@IcarNihsad), Bhopal, on Wednesday.
The zoo reported the deaths of seven water birds between October 3 and 9, including four painted storks, one grey pelican, one grey heron and one darter. The carcasses were found in the largest and most popular Vedanthangal bird's enclosure, which has around 150 birds of 10 different species.

With the weakening of the cyclonic circulation over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast, cloud development has significantly weakened along the north Chennai coast. Hence, the Red Warning for Chennai has been downgraded to Yellow for Day 1.

Another case filed against granite businessman 'Gem' Veeramani over sexual abuse of minors after another victim steps forward. His manager Sakthivel arrested on Saturday. With the UAC continuing to persist off North TN / South AP coast NEM is likely to be vigourous. But models indicate today the convergence may be to the East compared to the past couple of days so heaviest rains may happen in the sea. Nevertheless few places between Chennai and Pondy may see bursts of heavy rains during the evening hours. The hotspot could potentially be around between Mahabalipuram and Marakkanam latitude today. Like yesterday I will be travelling all day today as well so except for automated alerts other regular updates may not be possible.

Atlast - Central and South Chennai all clear / Drizzles. North Chennai still raining but would stop in 15-30 minutes.

The clouds from south moved up now via central Chennai, Rains would reduce in North Chennai in another 30 mins, It is still raining there.
After this no more intense clouds in Central and South Chennai. Drizzles would continue for a while.

Fine varieties of rice will be sold at a subsidised price of Rs 30 per kg at 250 cooperative stores across the state. Around one lakh MT of fine variety rice will be made available in the market under the initiative in next few days, says Food Minister Venkataraman.
Currently, fine varieties of rice, including Ponni brands, are sold at Rs 75 to Rs 90 per kg.

Heckling, verbal abuse, and threats are not harmless: They can escalate into physical attacks and put journalists’ safety at risk, particularly in volatile protest settings. Everyone must respect journalists’ right to report, regardless of whether they agree with their coverage. Authorities must ensure journalists can work safely without intimidation and threats.
