Laravel is a serious stack for regulated healthcare, and not for the reason most people assume.
We shipped a multi-tenant HIPAA platform on it. All 12 technical safeguards of the Security Rule, satisfied & evidenced.
What earned that wasn’t any one feature. It was conventions.
Every hosted vendor touching patient data means another BAA to sign.
Laravel gives us self-hosted options for messaging, queues, feature flags, search, and metrics- keeping clinical messages within infrastructure our existing BAA already covers.
Encrypted queue payloads. Signed, expiring URLs for every file. Security gates declared once in routing. ~2,350 tests proving access is refused, not just granted- in 40 seconds.

I worked on a dental referral platform. Every referral got a short code so staff could read it out over the phone.
The code was built from the patient's surname, the year, their first name, the specialty, and the urgency.
