We just finished a dental referral platform that had to be HIPAA-compliant. It moves real patient records between independent dental practices. I learned a lot building it, and the security code turned out to be the easier part. I'll post about it over the next few days.

Yesterday was a long day for us and our whole community. Huge thanks to @laravel Cloud, Forge, and Vapor for the clear communication and the engineering effort to get thousands of servers and containers patched on time. There were a few hiccups, but it all ended well!

Never imagined a Laravel guy would be opening iOS PRs. Turns out you can just composer require courage 😎📱

The Call for Papers for Laracon India 2027 is still open. Never spoken at a Laracon? Start with a 10-minute lightning talk. One idea, one lesson, one thing you built. You do not need a big topic to get on stage. 30-minute talks are open too. 🔗 laracon.in/cfp?s=x

Still time to get on the waitlist. People on it get first access when tickets open. 🔗 laracon.in/waitlist?s=x

Our friends at @ranium run 2,350 tests in 40 seconds to prove every access rule in their HIPAA app holds. Abbas Ali shows how with Laravel. Want that same care from your host? Laravel Cloud adds a firewall and DDoS protection to every app by default. ranium.in/blog/engineering/w…

Laravel is a serious stack for regulated healthcare, and not for the reason most people assume. We shipped a multi-tenant HIPAA platform on it. All 12 technical safeguards of the Security Rule, satisfied & evidenced. What earned that wasn’t any one feature. It was conventions.

I'm finding myself using Claude Code for things I never thought possible before. It has evolved way beyond a coding assistant for me.

This week, why our audit log records who read a record, not just what changed: xitter.cf/_abbas/status/21009360…
Most audit logs I've seen record what changed. Created, updated, deleted. On a system holding patient records, that doesn't answer the question you get asked after an incident. Who looked at this patient? 1/4

One thing to watch for. When you log a change to someone's personal details, record which fields changed, not the values. Otherwise, your audit log becomes a second copy of the data, usually with weaker permissions than the table it audits. 4/4

My 4th year teaching @laravel at an engineering college as a guest faculty member from industry. Scraping how I taught it. Syntax matters - you can't debug what you can't read. But starting there made sense when typing code was the slow part. 1/3

So: working app in week one. Theory comes after, attached to code that's already running. What gets you hired now is reading code you didn't write, spotting what's wrong, and explaining why. Can't practise that until something exists to read. 2/3

AI is allowed. I use Claude Code on the projector, students use whatever AI tool they have. One rule: you don't commit a line you can't explain. The final viva is on their own repo. Laravel helps - strong conventions mean there's usually a right answer.
