The Helsinki Court of Appeal has cleared three men who raped a heavily intoxicated 17-year-old girl in a wooded area in Finland. The girl was so drunk that she had actually been taken to the hospital for intoxication just before the assault. The three men then raped her in the woods right outside the hospital. Both the District Court and the Court of Appeal completely dismissed all charges and let the men walk free without any convictions. Judges ruled that despite her severe intoxication, CCTV footage showed she was still legally capable of forming and expressing consent. The court decided that the men could have believed the teenager was agreeing to having sex, ultimately freeing them from all criminal responsibility. It is completely fucked up that a court thinks a teenager drunk enough to need a hospital is somehow sober enough to consent to three grown men. Being drunk does not mean consent. Not saying no does not mean consent. If someone is too intoxicated to care for themselves, they cannot give real consent, period.

Meanwhile her new house just closed a children’s environmental centre and fenced off 150 acres of public parkland so she can play outdoors in peace. Groundbreaking advice from someone who just made nature less accessible for actual kids.

A selection on Edwardian Tea Gowns, which were worn when having guests to afternoon tea, or when in and about the house (a bit like our lounge wear, but so much more elegant!) They were worn without a heavy boned corset, so would be worn in the presence of family and friends only 1905-1909 #EdwardianFashion #fashionhistory

The family of a man killed by a tiger at a wildlife park near Doncaster have urged people to stop sharing video of the attack, saying the circulation of "deeply offensive media content" is causing them "severe distress". Overnight, President Donald Trump posted footage of the attack on his Truth Social platform. The man who died, William Chapman, suffered from significant mental illness according to his family.

"This is Daniel. He sells the Big Issue outside Hillhead library. Each week, I stop and have a chat, give him a couple of quid, if I have it, and buy him a coffee from the place I go to for a breakfast. Then, when I finish my breakfast I'll usually take him over another coffee and pay for a few in advance (or suspended, as some folk call them) so he can get warmed up when it gets chilly. Today, I did the same as usual but when I went to pay for my breakfast, the girl in the cafe told me it had already been paid for........by Daniel. He'd won £20 on a scratch card and decided he was going to treat me for a wee change. As I took a coffee over to him, his face was an absolute picture and he told me that it had made him happy that I'd had a nice surprise and it was his way of showing his appreciation for the coffees and the chats. If you're over Byres Road way, take a minute to say hello to him, even if you don't buy the magazine."

Little Walsingham was voted the nation’s favourite holy place in a poll by BBC Radio 4. Even in the 21st century, it still deserves such an accolade: the Blessed Virgin Mary herself has graced it for all time, putting it alongside many of the other great pilgrimage centres in Europe. The Mother of God’s intervention in this country’s spiritual development can still be experienced today. There are three places you can visit that are directly connected to the medieval shrine: the Anglican shrine (a reconstruction), the Catholic shrine just outside the village, and the ruins of the priory that housed the original shrine. There are other churches in the vicinity too that add to the Walsingham story. It all began 1,000 years ago when a Saxon woman called Lady Richeldis had a vision in which the Blessed Virgin took her to Nazareth. Mary showed her the house in which the Archangel Gabriel had delivered the Annunciation – the news that she was to bear the son of God. Lady Richeldis was given the dimensions of this house and told to construct a replica in Walsingham. A simple wooden cottage was duly built after miraculous signs showed her where to put it, near two holy wells. A corner of a field in Norfolk became forever a piece of the Holy Land. That was the year 1061, and during the next 500 years, Walsingham grew into Britain’s foremost centre of pilgrimage, rivalled only by Canterbury. A monastery was built, and a huge priory church enclosed the original humble house under its roof. To illustrate the importance of this shrine, it is enough to note that every monarch for 300 years, from Henry III in 1226 to Henry VIII, made a pilgrimage here. Henry VIII even walked the last mile barefoot when he came in 1511. Such humble respect for the shrine came to an abrupt end with the Reformation. The monastery was destroyed, the wooden image of the Blessed Virgin burned, and 11 people hanged outside the walls for daring to resist. Much of the shrine has been reconstructed during the past 100 years. Little Walsingham is once again a holy place without parallel in Britain and comparable to few in Europe. Around 350,000 visitors come to this hallowed spot each year, shared between Anglican, Catholic, and Orthodox believers alike with instructive common purpose. Perhaps only the sites of the Holy Land can give a greater sense of shared Christian tradition – none in Britain matches it for multi-denominational activity, though Lindisfarne comes close.

It’s been 3 days and Rochelle has: told a Christian woman her Dog is better than God; told someone with no limbs she has a fear of no limbs; told someone they won’t lose weight because they eat too much. It’s like they created her in a Big Brother Housemate factory. #BBUK

Lillia has been missing for one week today. The 13-year-old disappeared after she was last seen at Piccadilly Gardens bus station last Friday (September 11). The last confirmed sighting of her was then at 1.50pm on Saturday (September 12), when detectives believe she boarded the 247 bus at the Trafford Centre. A huge search is underway for the Bolton teenager with police holding a major press conference her mother attended last night.

My niece got sent home from school because her skirt was ‘distracting the boys.’ Her mother asked why the boys weren't being disciplined for staring. The principal said, ‘We can't control teenage boys. We can control what the girls wear.’ I asked him, ‘So instead of teaching boys that someone's body isn't an invitation, you're teaching girls that their bodies are responsible for boys' behavior?’ He said, ‘We're just trying to prevent problems.’ Funny how preventing problems apparently means restricting the girls instead of correcting the boys.

Today I turn 30 YEARS OLD, which means it’s been 14 YEARS since I was on #EducatingYorkshire. Incredibly, I’m now the SAME AGE Mr Burton was when he changed my life. As I say goodbye to my 20s, I dedicate this post to the life-changing teachers who never gave up on me. Thank you

Yesterday, we lost a cherished member of our family. We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love. We also had trouble keeping up with her, for Sunny was a force of nature. Athletic and full of boundless energy, she leapt over the hedges on the South Lawn like they weren’t even there, chasing squirrels, birds and anything else that moved. And whereas the way to Bo’s heart usually involved a treat, Sunny was more interested in having us run around with her, roll on the floor with her, or have her belly rubbed for as long as we were willing. She loved the girls, even if they were pestering her when she was napping. She loved our team, and would often follow them around, helping them on the job. She was fiercely protective of Bo, who she rightly sensed wasn’t always as alert and attentive as she was. She had her eccentricities: other than Bo, she preferred people to dogs; she was a loud and sloppy drinker; and despite being a Portuguese Water Dog, she hated getting wet. But as far as our family was concerned, she was pretty much perfect, and for thirteen years, she would be by our side – always loyal, always sweet, always ready for adventure, still fiery and gorgeous till the very end of her days. We will miss her terribly, and imagine she’s with her big brother now, making sure he’s okay.
