Sergeant Jonathan Turner, a 17-year US military veteran with tours in Iraq and Iran, died in California from combat-related issues. His Georgia family couldn't afford the funeral, so cremains were to ship. Patriot Guard Riders relayed them 2,100 miles across seven states with honoring ceremonies, ensuring dignified delivery. Thank you for your service Sgt Jonathan Turner and may you RIP. Thank you to the Patriot Guard Riders and everyone who participated in honoring the sergeant. 🙏❤️🇺🇸.

From our earliest days, Black history has always been American history – and Black folks have profoundly shaped our American culture through music, art, literature, sports, and beyond. One month a year is not sufficient to celebrate the power of the movements and the people who have fought for the rights we enjoy today. That’s something that we have to do each and every day, as we strive to live up to their example and make sure our children and grandchildren remember their stories.

From the civil rights movement to Ambassadors, musicians, athletes, and inventors known around the world, Georgia is home to some of the most consequential chapters of and contributors to Black history.
This #BlackHistoryMonth, I encourage all Georgians to reflect on those gifts and celebrate the men and women of the past and present who make Georgia an even better place to call home.
