At our post-MPC engagement with Chief Executives of banks today, the conversation focused on how the banking sector can help turn Ghana’s macroeconomic gains into tangible benefits for businesses and households. With inflation declining, financial conditions easing and private sector credit recovering strongly, there is greater scope to deepen financing to productive sectors, particularly SMEs and agriculture. We also discussed the need to strengthen the integrity of the financial system, address emerging risks from unlicensed digital lending, and unlock the considerable potential of remittances by developing savings and investment products that better serve the Ghanaian diaspora. A resilient banking sector must ultimately do more than preserve stability. It must help translate that stability into opportunity across the economy.
