One of the hardest parts about being a designer is showing progress without visuals to teammates. Everyone needs to visualize progression. I can spend days literally just thinking things through and never touching something like Figma. Especially when thinking big picture.

One more aspect of fidelity that I forgot: Communicate not just your suggestion but your framework that led to that suggestion. Help people understand not just WHAT you think, but HOW you think.

💯 times this. My best advice for aspiring UI designers is to take screenshots of apps you like and trace them in Sketch/Figma. Over and over again.

I'm often asked how to start when it comes to creating icons and I think this quote from @sdw really nails it. When I was beginning to learn to incorporate 3D into icons, I started by trying to make an exact recreation of Apple's Grapher icon:
