This is big: @NewJerseyOAG and @NewJerseyDEP are teaming up to take action against the illegally operating Vineland data center. Whether $1m is enough for a wealthy corporation to take this seriously is to be seen. But the threat of further actions just might do the trick...

For decades, Reporters Roundtable was a real staple for those who closely followed New Jersey politics. It allowed reporters to offer their thoughts, opinions and knowledge in a way they couldn't necessarily do with an article, while also providing more context to the stories of the week. Hope @mynjpbs can bring it back, or at least a version of it.
Thank you and and farewell to our colleagues at Reporters Roundtable for holding it down through the end. Amazing work despite tremendous challenges by @BriVannozziNJ @JoannaGagisNJ @jicklan and everyone else over the past 40. We're ready to take it to the next level @PRESSCORENJ

Children worry their families can't afford food after Trump's SNAP cuts: In Texas, a 6-year-old stood in front of her family's refrigerator, hoping food would magically appear. In Delaware, an 11-year-old wondered why her family could no longer afford Cinnamon Toast Crunch. In New Jersey, four siblings wanted their mother to buy groceries — but she had to tell them she couldn't. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sna…

Importantly, ALL jobs that are eligible for *paid* temporary disability and family leave benefits have the right to be reinstated to their same or equivalent job. Previously many workers fell in a gap where they were eligible for PAID leave but could still be fired for taking it
Legislation expanding New Jersey's Family Leave Act job to include more employees who wish to take paid or unpaid leave will officially go into effect on July 17th. The law reduces the minimum threshold for covered employers from businesses with 30 employees to businesses with 15 employees, allowing employees the right to be reinstated after taking family temporary disability leave insurance or unpaid family leave. Additionally, the new law reduces the amount of time for which an individual must be employed from 12 months to 3 months, while also cutting the number of “base hours” required from 1,000 to 250. Over 400,000 workers in the state are expected to be affected.

Last month, I sat in on 50 hearings over two days — nearly all detained immigrants were denied bond. Attorneys said immigration court has become a "horror show" and "deportation machine." “It’s going to take years to undo a lot of this." newjerseymonitor.com/2026/07…

New from me: A POLITICO examination of last-minute spending additions tucked into New Jersey’s three most recent state budgets found lawmakers directed state funds to entities where they have personal ties. One lawmaker successfully requested taxpayer funds for her part-time employer. Another lawmaker steered state money to a nonprofit founded and run by his aunt — a grant worth roughly four times the organization’s annual revenue. And other lawmakers sent money to local governments where they’re on the payroll — or have financial ties. Read more @politico:

Speaking at the conclusion of today's New Jersey state Senate Budget Committee hearing, Chairman Paul Sarlo said the committee is not expected to vote on the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget before Saturday, and may even come as late as Monday. A Monday committee vote may mean a final Senate vote gets pushed past the July 1 deadline.
