Good to meet the Chancellor today ahead of the Budget.
We need to see a sustained improvement in school funding.
The majority of the £3.3bn saving on employer contributions to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme is currently set to be taken from schools and colleges and clawed back by the Treasury.
If that money remained in education, it would be transformational - taking us around two-thirds of the way towards restoring school funding.
Right now, it is earmarked for spending elsewhere.
That needs to change.

Trott is factually incorrect in her portrayal of the situation at Bristol Brunel Academy, and it is ill-befitting of any politician to make such inaccurate statements.
As she should be aware there have been two reviews which have cleared the school and its culture of any antisemitism.
The targeting of individual union activists in the current political climate is deeply irresponsible and dangerous.
The NEU will robustly defend its representatives.

60 years ago today 144 people died in the Welsh village of Aberfan when a colliery spoil tip collapsed onto them. 109 of those were children attending the village school. A tragedy that broke hearts, which remain broken now. The strength and courage shown by that community is an example to us all.

Donald Trump canceled his scheduled Oct. 16 deposition in his lawsuit against the BBC because of "matters of national importance."
The BBC alerts the judge that those matters were: a rally in Dalton, Ga. and a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago.

ALT The BBC submits this Notice to raise newly available information regarding the “matters of national importance” that Plaintiff claimed kept him from his scheduled deposition. As the BBC now knows, on October 16, Plaintiff attended and addressed a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, alongside Plaintiff’s favored candidates in Georgia’s upcoming U.S. Senate and gubernatorial elections. Plaintiff subsequently traveled to his resort club and residence at Mar-a-Lago for a Republican National Committee fundraising event.

OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year.
Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.

Five years ago today, Sir David Amess was killed while serving the people of Southend West.
I knew David as a kind, tireless colleague who dedicated his life to public service. His death was a terrible reminder of the risks faced by those in public life, and of our responsibility to ensure that everyone can serve their communities without fear.
Today, we remember David’s extraordinary commitment to the people he represented, and the lasting loss felt by his family, friends and all who knew him.

It's the very worst of what we’re seeing in Trump’s America. We can’t let it become Farage’s Britain.
