Hey @jonstewart, not sure if you're following the Jon-Stewart-related news out of the UK but Labour parliamentary candidate and Muslim woman @faizashaheen has just been suspended tonight from the Labour Party for liking on Twitter this old Israel video sketch of yours.
Tried watching 3 Body Problem on Netflix but I am already laughing uncontrollably less than 15 minutes in
I think the bird really IS blue
Did you know that the symbolic #BlueJay isn't really blue…In fact, we see them as blue due to the way light reflects off of the inside of their wings! Despite the optical illusion, these birds are beautiful and are part of the logo for our #Toronto
@BlueJays! 💙

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While the Blue Jay does not use pigments to color it's feathers it is entirely misleading to call the optical phenomena of structural color an "illusion" when both pigments and structural color rely on absorbing most wavelengths of light besides a target color.

Have you ever wanted to know how efficient a green/red/blue/white/purple etc. multi-junction solar cell could be, or are you normal? Well, now you can know (new paper, open access)! doi.org/10.1039/D3EE03337F
Solar good, wind good, nuclear good, fossil fuels bad. I hope Green parties and environmental organisations reconsider their unscientific stance on nuclear power theguardian.com/environment/…

Turns out it’s extremely annoying when a bunch of the most credulous people in the world suddenly become “experts” in a topic somewhat adjacent to your field. My condolences to all physicists who actually work on superconductivity
Every actual (condensed matter) physicist I know: “looks interesting but not conclusive at all, let’s see”
The world’s most annoying guys: “we’re so back. It’s so over. We’re so back. Here’s why an unrelated maths course I took makes me an expert on density functional theory”
When you definitely understand how computer chips work

A lamentable incident in which @yorl’s job opportunity was scotched for expressing widely-shared-in-academia (and IMO entirely correct) scepticism about the effectiveness of DEI statements on his podcast 4 years ago. 1/2
it's up! A VBW exclusive report - @yorl joins @peez and @tamler to talk about his experience applying to UCLA only to have his candidacy pulled at the last minute because of remarks made on his podcast(!) about diversity statements. Plus more fraud verybadwizards.com/episode/e…
