Ahead of tomorrow's International Day for the Eradication of Poverty:
We revisit an earlier conversation with Delhi-based journalist @Sagar_reporter on how the media only notices the poor when people die, and how poverty puts justice out of reach.

No bruises? No cruelty?
In Pakistan, that's how the law used to see it.
Now, the Supreme Court has ruled that psychological abuse can be grounds for dissolving a marriage
In October 2025, Pakistan Supreme Court Justice Ayesha Malik expanded the legal definition of cruelty within marriage.
Malik's ruling won't make courts fairer overnight, but it tells a woman that what she is living through has a name and it counts
Even if, for now, that recognition mostly depends on whether women can afford to seek justice in court.

My latest for @project_polis
In October 2025, #supremecourtofpakistan ruled that cruelty in marriage includes psychological and verbal abuse. I wanted to know what that means for real women, so I spoke to four of them, as well as, lawyers, a judge, a psychologist, and activists who have been fighting for this for decades.

Who is Natasha Narwal and why does her story resonate with India’s Gen Z protests today?
In May 2020, this student activist was arrested and charged under India’s anti-terror law in a case linked to the February 2020 Delhi violence, which erupted during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). After spending more than a year in prison, she has drawn parallels between her generation’s experience and the challenges facing young protesters today.

How will Mamdani confront the NYPD's complicity with ICE?
We've been raising these questions since February.
Here's what we've been asking and reporting👇🧵
At the heart of Tisch's policies is not only the construction of a surveillance regime, but also the implementation of anti-people, anti-poor, racialized policy.
That policy lands on the most racially, economically, and politically marginalized communities in this city
