All across Iceland, you see reminders of how tight-knit the local community is.
At this Reykjavík playground, instead of swinging on parallel tracks in individual worlds, kids swing into the center and then out again, like a laughing squeeze box of neighborhood joy.

After ~7 yr of work, it's finally out! We present a molecular phylogeny of butterflies sampling >90% of genera & >2000 spp. Butterflies emerged ~100 million yr ago in North America and first fed on legumes. Thanks to all 87 co-authors from 28 countries! rdcu.be/dcaVU

Check out this fun image of kids playing in a fountain that accompanies this horrifying story of deadly heat.
This is climate propaganda at its finest. Aren't dangerous heatwaves just the best?

The best thing about being sober is that you keep your word. Just like most alcoholics I used to lie to others and myself constantly. Anything to get the next drink. 🍺 🍷 🍹
When Giuseppe was dying last month I wanted to build a little memorial garden for him. His favorite thing in his last 3 months was to smell the flowers. So to have a garden built around the stones where he is buried would be fitting. We can cremate and scatter the ashes of any future dogs in Giuseppe’s little memorial garden with him at the center and fondly remembered. 💐 🌺 🌸
Now that I’m sober I could organize to keep my promise. In the old days I’d have talked a lot, made big promises but the ultimately the garden wouldn’t have happened. The drink would have been more important.
It’s just some little plants and grass for a street dog I only knew for 3 months but for me it means the world. It’s a really nice feeling being able to keep your promises to yourself and others when addiction free 🥰🙏

I got to peer inside the hollow trunk of an oak the other day. What a complete and utter *privilege* to see where water & sugars once passed from root to leaf & leaf to root; to actually feel part of an organism likely more than 1,000 years old 😌

A small, uninhabited volcanic island west of Kauaʻi is now free of rats and ready to attract native seabirds!
It took decades to eradicate invasive rats from the 280-acre island of Lehua, historic habitat for over a dozen Hawaiian seabirds. More: ow.ly/wSoi50MGQNm

Somewhere, very near you, is a tiny being, just going about their day.
They don’t care about you, or me, nor any of our worries.
And I find so much comfort in that 💚🐌

A fairy sailboat, granted safe harbour in our wilds, readying to set sail into 2023. With hand painted silk Marsh fritillary sails, she carries a precious cargo of Devils-bit-scabious seeds; the butterflies food plant. Wishing you safe harbour and fair seas in 2023!#HappyNewYear

If you own a telescope, spread the love. I just spent the whole night showing trick-or-treaters Saturn and Jupiter. Watching them (and their parents) suddenly realize space is quite accessible is incredibly gratifying. Space is up there waiting for everyone to discover it. – at Arizona, USA
