I asked Derek Trucks about how he and the Family Guitar guys celebrated winning the auction for Jerry Garcia’s Tiger guitar back in March.
Trucks told me that they were going to go out for drinks after the gavel on the winning $11.56m bid, but he got a call from his wife Sue to come over to Cyndi Lauper’s house for a homemade Italian dinner. He couldn’t pass that up, understandably…

I'll never forget waking up to the headlines Oct. 20th 1977 . Love them. #LynyrdSkynyrd 🕯 🎶 🎵 – at South Carolina, USA
October 20, 1977: A plane crash ended the original Lynyrd @Skynyrd band with the passing of singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, back-up singer Cassie Gaines and road manager Dean Kilpatrick.
Artimus Pyle: "Right before the wreck, the plane was completely quiet. I feel that everyone there at that moment was speaking to their concept of God."
Billy Powell: "After the engines stopped, only the whooshing noises of gliding through the air during our descent could be heard. Then it sounded like hundreds of people with baseball bats hitting the outside of the plane as we skimmed along the tops of the trees. Suddenly I saw the plane's wings being ripped off of its sides."
Gene Odom: "Everyone was wearing their seat belts before we crashed, yet every seat but one was ripped from the floor. Almost everyone and everything was hurled forward into a pile of broken bodies that smothered those on the bottom."
Artimus Pyle: "The plane was completely torn apart when we hit the ground. I got out of the plane and started walking in a daze. I can't describe how terrifying it was. Among the dead and dying, the conscious survivors were moaning and screaming for help. I saw the copilot hanging in a tree, decapitated. The pilots paid dearly for their mistake."
Thieves arrived before the rescuers did and stole thousands of dollars in cash, jewelry and anything else that was valuable from the crash site -- even off of the deceased and those who were too injured to stop them from being robbed.
Billy Powell: "Afterward when I learned that Ronnie had died... I felt relieved, to be honest -- because thank God, it meant that now the beatings would finally stop. He was a hard man - a street fighter. Everyone was scared of him and no one dared to argue with Ronnie because they knew that they'd get hurt if they did."

The math doesn't math anymore. Ecommerce is a harder game than it's ever been and there's less money for brands than ever.
Brands, Agencies, and Service Providers need to change their models.

Not often that you see the 72-hour precipitation forecast from @NWSMARFC with absolutely nothing on it. This will most likely be a common occurrence through this week and perhaps beyond. Beautiful mid-autumn weather inbound! 🍂

New York, summer 1980. Dire Straits spent June through August at the Power Station cutting their third album with producer Jimmy Iovine, whom Mark Knopfler hired after hearing his work on Patti Smith's "Because the Night." Iovine brought in Roy Bittan of the E Street Band on keyboards. The sessions were rough: David Knopfler quit the band after clashing with his brother, and Mark re-recorded the guitar parts himself. Making Movies came out 46 years ago today, on October 17, 1980. It opens with the eight-minute "Tunnel of Love," led in by Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Carousel Waltz," and includes "Romeo and Juliet," which went to No. 8 in the UK. The album reached No. 4 in the UK and No. 19 in the US, and Rolling Stone's David Fricke called it "everything the first two albums should have been but weren't."
🎸 Making Movies has just seven songs, starting with the eight-minute "Tunnel of Love." Which one is your favorite? 🎸 👇️
ALT Album cover of Dire Straits' Making Movies. A plain bright red field fills most of the square. A blue strip runs down the right edge with DIRE STRAITS at the top and MAKING MOVIES at the bottom in thin white capital letters, and a blue half-circle tab bulges into the red at the middle of the strip.

July 19, 1970. First game of a doubleheader in Los Angeles. The Phillies trail the Dodgers in the ninth.
A 22-year-old utility man named Jim Hutto pinch-hits against Jim Brewer.
Grand slam. Phillies win. sabr.org/gamesproj/game/july…
It is one of three home runs he will ever hit. He had debuted three months earlier by flying out to center against Tom Seaver. Later that May he was pressed into service as an emergency catcher after Tim McCarver and Mike Ryan both broke bones in the same half-inning.
Fifty-seven games with Philadelphia. Four more with Baltimore five years later. .175. Twelve RBI. The grand slam is the only one anyone still mentions.

John’s intro for Standing on the Moon from 6.5.23 in Burgettstown, PA💙
This song became a postcard from a person who wasn’t on Earth anymore, but we got the sense they were safe, in a better place with a better vantage point. Bob & Jerry are on the moon sharing the binoculars🥹

1960. Bristol High School. A 6'2" forward named Pete Cimino scores 114 points in a single basketball game.
Pennsylvania record. Twenty-two ahead of second place. Twenty-four ahead of Wilt Chamberlain.
He also throws a perfect game for the baseball team and signs with the Senators for a $12,000 bonus.
Five years later he makes his Twins debut in the pennant race. September 22, 1965. One perfect inning against Paul Blair, Boog Powell, and Brooks Robinson. He sits on the bench afterward and can’t stop shaking.
Then a useful year in the bullpen, a trade that sends him to the Angels for Dean Chance, and 86 games. 5-8. 3.07. 139 strikeouts.
The basketball record still stands. The pitching career was shorter.

This is what “feel” is. From a man who spent his entire adult life passionately learning by successes and failures. Seeing things most people don’t see. Learning the nuances of the game. This is what analytics will never capture. Analytics are void of this xitter.cf/todd_rosiak/status/211…

BUNTING MANIPULATES PITCHER APPROACH AND SETS THE TABLE FOR FUTURE MOMENTS
With 2 outs and no body on in the 3rd inning, losing 4-0, @Brewers Manager Pat Murphy told #9 hitter David Hamilton to lay down a bunt in a seemingly unimportant at bat.
Why?
Because Murphy knew Hamilton was known for bunting and they could set the table for a future at bat and big moment later in the game where he’d get a pitch to hit.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Hamilton bunted.
Hamilton got out.
But in the 5th, in Hamilton’s next at bat, he got a pitch in the heart of the plate and singled scoring a run and bringing the Brewers within 1.
And in the 9th, Hamilton did it again, homering on a get me over slider and extending the Brewers lead to 6-4.
You bunt to create future moments, and the Brewers did just that.
