### Kardashev Economics: A Truly Decentralized Economy #### Step 1: Automation Disrupts the Economy With timelines being compressed by the advent of technologies like OpenAI's o3 model, AI agents, and increasingly reliable models. The demand for human labor is dwindling and will likely be rendered obsolete in certain categories by the end of 2025. Interestingly, AI models will continue to surpass humans, eventually saturating nearly every job a human could perform. Soon enough, human labor in the traditional sense will be a thing of the past.  This obviously brings about very important philosophical questions: - what will everyone do? - how will people afford to live? - how will this affect people's mental states? - etc. Some individuals propose we implement UBI (Universal Basic Income) and let everyone live off of free money while the companies with super-powerful AI build the future, if you can't already tell, there are major issues with this idea: - you now have another class of people who have leverage over your entire life. - it incentivizes the need for a mass surveillance state. - it incentivizes humans to stop growing and eventually decay. Some argue UBI is good for humanity. While I do think it is an important and necessary near-term mechanism to help us navigate this transition, I don't believe it should be the final destination. If we continue down this path, the probability of the population who is building and accelerating with the future, splitting off from the population who isn't leaning into the momentum, is quite high. This would lead to techno-feudalism where the people at the top are essentially gods compared to everyone else. This is obviously an outcome that we want to avoid, and I believe Kardashev Economics will solve. **Step 2: The Role of Humans in The Future** There are 4 pillars to civilization: 1\) energy 2\) materials 3\) intelligence 4\) labor The current economy is measured by GDP (cognitive and physical labor). Currently humans supply all of the cognition and labor to the economy. This means that, for GDP to grow, humans must procreate, wait 20 years for the next generation to mature, and then, after a few years of gaining experience in their roles, begin contributing value to the economy. With AI and robotics on the other hand, intelligence and labor can be manufactured at any velocity we want and it is ready to work on day one. This means the two most fundamental bottlenecks of the current GDP-driven economy are essentially solved, leaving only two constraints to the economy: energy and materials. The question becomes, "what fuels human labor?" the answer is USD. The US Dollar is a distilled version of cognitive and physical labor, we trade our own physical labor, and distilled labor to power the economy. Now the question becomes "what powers an automated economy that's no longer powered by human labor?" Answer: Energy.\ Energy is the logical replacement to USD since it serves the same function of fueling production, but now we can also incentivize all of humanity to tackle the most fundamental pillar underlying everything, ENERGY. By having energy as the fundamental unit of economics, humans can all continue to contribute to the economy in a decentralized fashion. Instead of forcing humanity under a small group of centralized monolithic distributors of resources, humanity can have autonomy if done correctly. **Step 3: The Transition** In the near-term a form of UBI is necessary to keep people from starving as we go through this transition (it will likely be the largest transition since the inception of America, and likely MUCH bigger). I trust we will do this initial step the best we can, I'm more worried about the long-term plan for the economy. We need fundamentally new initial conditions of the system to be reconstructed from first principles, "reform" doesn't work at this scale. I believe Kardashev Economics provides initial conditions that incentivize decentralization, individual autonomy, decreased gatekeeping, and free markets for competition to continue. However, this system will require infrastructure to be built out as we are transitioning (more on this later). Kardashev Economics incentivizes individuals to be self-reliant by approaching life, business, and contributing to the economy from first principles. Starting with energy first, then compute, then AI models, finally robotics to automate intelligence and labor. This covers all of the pillars of civilization besides materials, which we will allocate energy, AI, and robotics to gather. This system functions similarly to traditional capitalism: energy represents USD, is injected into free markets, and the entities that leverage capital most efficiently and effectively succeed. This allows for every interesting living dynamics as well. Some people will just have massive clean energy farms and recursively improve their systems to harvest more energy, others will realize you can make outsized returns on your energy if you create a product and sell the product for more energy at higher margins (just how current USD are used today in P&Ls). It allows every single individual to be autonomous and free to make and allocate their energy (money) how they choose as long as its legal. Most importantly, it allows individuals to contribute to the economy, find a sense of meaning, and know they are supporting the advancement of humanity and civilization. Energy or kWh is the best replacement for USD in the future.\ \ **Step 4: Viability of Kardashev Economics** The #1 argument I receive for Kardashev Economics is its viability. People argue that it would lead to greater inequality due to the amount of intelligence people would need to do this, geographical constraints, etc. I do agree, today these statements are true, but as we develop more powerful AI systems, every human will have the intellectual capacity to participate in this type of economy. There are also solutions to geographical constraints such as owning parts of nuclear reactors and their energy output via blockchain, parts of solar farms, eventually it may even be possible that we all have local fusion reactors. The primary constraint is infrastructure to support the supply of energy, distribution of energy, and tokenization of energy. This infrastructure can be developed during the transitional period. **Step 5: Infrastructure Requirements** In order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, the system need to be engineered properly. Obviously purchasing a coffee will not require you to transfer energy across the country, it will simply be a change of numbers without any physical energy transactions, I call this a ECT (Energy Credit Transaction). For powering infrastructure with physical energy however, there will need to be a different type of transaction, a PET (Pure Energy Transaction). This way energy isn't being allocated for unreasonable transactions causing mass waste, there will be a simple credit transfer increasing the creditors ability to do a ECT or PET with the received credits. As far as national infrastructure goes, we will need AI agents embedded into the grid that have the ability to allocate tokenized energy units via blockchain to the correct locations via GridLink technology. We will need decentralized ownership mega-batteries distributed across the grid, this is where all energy will be sent to then be allocated. We will need to reconstruct a large majority of the current electrical grid WHICH IS TERRIFYINGLY OUT OF DATE, All of civilization rests on this infrastructure, yet it is in a severely deteriorated condition. Since it needs to be reconstructed anyway, we should design it to support tokenized energy transactions and embed AI to intelligently allocate energy. We will need a combination of self-sustaining micro-grids, mega-grids, distributed battery technology, GrindLink tech, and energy tokenizing devices for this idea to be complete. **Step 6: Building This Future** A prosperous and harmonious future with high levels of freedom is not guaranteed. It requires relentless ambition and unfathomable amounts of work, but with everyone contributing with their new AI augmented abilities, it's actually more than feasible to accelerate the timelines. This is why I'm building USX, a community based on American values of free markets, free speech, and decentralized power. The best way to align with this future is to reconstruct the initial conditions of a system from first principles to naturally incentivize the outcomes humanity wants to see. We have a 6 step process to achieving this goal:  1\) Community - Starting with the people and building a movement for this decentralized future 2\) Compute -  Creating a distributed cloud computing infrastructure any members can connect to in order to host their compute and be compensated, or to rent out the compute of others to run the best models in the future. 3\) DeFi - Building the best token and platform for members to leverage AI, compute, and build real businesses and wealth for themselves on the decentralized platform.  4\) Robotics/3D Printing -  after the world of bits becomes more or less solved, the world of atoms will become our primary focus (we are already witnessing the beginning of this transition) 5\) Kardashev Economics - this is where we start building proper infrastructure of the future of humanity and the economy.  6\) The Final Frontier - space colonization, space mining, etc. At this point we have proper incentives in place and a solid foundation for humanity to conquer the stars. I suspect we will see massive centralization of power over the next 3 years as frontier model companies build ASI, robotics become extremely effective, and nuclear energy comes online. There are serious implications that need to be considered with these technologies becoming centralized especially as we see neuralink adoption. I suspect connecting directly to a singular centralized superintelligence is more dangerous than most are imagining, especially as the number of electrodes in the neuralink increases. AI is an exocortex for the human, having a BCI with a singular centralized superintelligence that collects information and improves in real time is literally the definition of a borg hivemind. The only way to prevent that outcome is through decentralization of energy technology, decentralization of compute, and open source AI. That way we can run our own super powerful models locally, or even have small distributed hiveminds (which might actually be cool) that we can join or leave as we choose. I have seen people question why I'm building my community (a decentralized economy). Its to have a counterbalancing force against centralization, our mission is to create proper incentives and infrastructure from first principles that allows for decentralization of the most powerful tech in the future so individuals can maintain maximal autonomy. The community is currently small, but over time the goal is to have a place where authority is decentralized amongst all members, technology is open sourced and decentralized, and people can own their personal weights instead of their minds and thoughts being given to mega corporations. A positive outcome from AI isn't guaranteed, it takes effort. That's why we can't sit still and wait, we must build the future we want to live in. Thats why I started USX, we need more builders who understand how important this mission is to join.

The dangerous part of UBI is it incentivizes the need for a mass surveillance state. If we do UBI it should be adjusted to incentivize entrepreneurship, otherwise we should do Kardashev Economics with universal basic compute.

Biology is simply a physical construct of the universe. Our evolution is a product of fitness functions and natural selection. Whichever organism uses energy the most efficiently and effectively prevails. The civ that adopts Kardashev Economics prevails. Thermodynamics tells us the rules to the game, yet so many people refuse to play by them. WHY?
