Everyone wants what every village used to be. I can think of fifty new strip malls built in New Hampshire since I was a child. How many new villages? Zero. This I think is a tragedy that goes far beyond friend compounds.

literally every person I've dated, male and female, wanted to build a rural compound/villa with all of their friends I am not complaining, it's just funny that I've had to establish a boundary of "not going full Waco" in every single relationship I've had

I’d argue greater alpha can be found in non-gig opportunities like breakout startups post-covid. Maybe gig economy is more frequently decoupled from general market. But upside also kind of capped by the capacity of an individual or a single-check project.
