Good riddance. DOGE created chaos, spread misinformation & incompetence, violated numerous laws, targeted minorities, killed lifesaving aid funding, likely leaked confidential info, and fed the myth that waste alone drives deficits - all to produce rounding-error savings.
“Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
While the formal mission of DOGE has come to an end, the mission to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse will continue. Good stewardship of taxpayer dollars and accountable government are not temporary initiatives. We hope those principles endure long into America’s next 250 years.
It has been our greatest honor to serve the American people. Happy 4th! 🇺🇸

This whole list is absolute BONKERS. But these segments in particular are just next level:
"5) Require sterilization of all foreign visitors prior to entry.
6) Dissolution of the Union. A nation which can’t even restrict who gets to be a citizen isn’t a nation."
It is absolutely bizarre that these people believe that the continued application of a rule that has existed for generation after generation -- as we've grown to the most powerful and prosperous free nation in world history -- is somehow the root of our national demise and so clearly wrong that we need to end the union.
Just wild.
Several ways forward here given the choice of Roberts/Barrett to nullify the 14th Amendment and extra-constitutionally replace it with their own language:
1) Nullification. States issue birth certificates, and they can just stop issuing them to non-citizens. Roberts/Barrett can deal with the fallout and litigate each birth individually.
2) Pack the court. If Robert wants to be a politician who writes laws instead of a judge, then he can fight with 10 more unelected legislators in robes.
3) Deny entry to all pregnant foreigners.
4) Deny entry to all female foreigners.
5) Require sterilization of all foreign visitors prior to entry.
6) Dissolution of the Union. A nation which can’t even restrict who gets to be a citizen isn’t a nation.
7) Amend the Constitution. This is pointless, because once a judge decides he can rewrite the Constitution at will (as Roberts and Barrett did today), the actual text is meaningless. But this is what most GOP politicians gravitate towards because they are useless.
If you think all these options are not great, understand that that is what happens when unelected judges decide that they are in charge of the country and get to write its laws.

Incredible.
A liberal coalition is finally forming to push back against both the far right and the far left.
This week, they launched @thepromise2026, a public pledge with 13 sitting Congressmembers and candidates signing on, openly breaking with the DSA wing while refusing to be lumped in with MAGA.
Their commitments:
"We are capitalist, not socialist."
"We want safety, not lawlessness."
"We are responsible, not reckless."
"Government should solve problems, not create them."
"We are mainstream, not extreme."
"We are proud, not ashamed of America."
This is the kind of pro-America, anti-authoritarian coalition American politics desperately needs.
More of this, please.

Powerwall 3P is now available in Germany
The new three-phase energy storage system is designed to meet the power needs of 95% of German homes with a single unit while optimizing energy usage to maximize savings
- 15.4 kW continuous AC output
- 21 kW peak power during power outages
- Supports mixed DC- and AC-coupled configurations
- 4 MPPTs, making it suitable for different roof orientations and shading conditions
- Comes standard with Tesla Home, a fully integrated home energy management system
Take note, Democrats. This is how you communicate to the tax paying public that you’re investigating your predecessor’s corruption.
The state will not finance these things, neither the event called CPAC nor other related institutions such as the Mathias Corvinus Collegium and similar attached bodies. I believe the state should never have financed them in the first place, it was a crime. Mixing party financing with government spending from the state budget is, in my view, a criminal offense, and this will have to be investigated by the future authorities, including the National Office for the Recovery and Protection of Public Assets, since those budgetary funds were not meant to finance party events.
CPAC is welcome to come to Budapest, very welcome, but it should not be financed with Hungarian taxpayers’ money. It should be funded by Fidesz, or by Orbán’s proxies, at least until that money is taken back.
Remember when the Tech Right was gung ho about Trump and MAGA because he seemed to champion their (often reasonable, if not aspirational and inspiring) pet idea?
I hope 1+ year later it’s abundantly clear that this is never going to happen. To many of us it was also clear then.

President-elect Donald Trump has called for the creation of up to ten new "Freedom Cities," new cities built on federally-owned land that can serve as hubs for emerging technologies, American manufacturing, and new housing to lower the cost of living.
This is an excellent idea.

People don't realize how bad autocrats are for their people.
Hungary is so poor that they need to shut down universities in the middle of the semester to save money.
Imagine being so broken as government that you can't pay your schools anymore and send students home.
Meanwhile his family and friends get ungodly rich.
Same with Putin and soon with Trump. They bankrupt their own countries for generations, fill their pockets, and blame everyone else for it.
Worst of all they are surrounded by yes-men so they even believe they are the victim here.

Dog, this is so sad.
Imagine all the lives that were never had in San Francisco because it refused to build housing. Multiple lost generations of artists, writers and creatives.
Not to mention the literal lives that were never conceived because couples couldn’t afford a home.

This is how traffic streets feel when you’re walking anywhere with a 3 year old
Americans tolerate private vehicle traffic on every public street, and the consequence is that we have made our public realm absolutely HARROWING to negotiate with young children

I cannot wait until the White House changes hands and all of you ghouls switch back from "you're a traitor unless you bootlick so hard your tongue goes numb" to "the government asking any questions about my offshore fentanyl casino is vile tyranny and I will throw myself in the San Francisco Bay in protest", like werewolves at the last ray of the setting moon.

Today @CatoInstitute published our report providing the first look at the fiscal effects of the wave of legal & illegal immigration over the last 3 decades. It shows immigrants created surpluses every year, by a combined $14.5 trillion, even as deficits grew

If there was ever a moment for libertarians and conservatives to step up and join the rest of us, we’re in it.
Americans have to unite and stop this descent from a freedom-loving nation into the kind of place where masked, militarized government agents are sent to politically noncompliant areas to roam the streets, terrorize civilians, and deploy violence with impunity.

It is depressing that so many people just blanket oppose markets out of ideology even when creating a market mechanism for food banks lead to feeding way more people at a way lower cost. Prices are a powerful tool for allocating resources!
Great story. There was another really good piece on this 2 months ago to check out too worksinprogress.co/issue/how…

Abundance is rejected by sections of both the DSA and the establishment left because it treats policy as a tool to deliver what people need (more homes, cheaper electricity) rather than a weapon in a performative class war or a spoils system for favored interests and industries.

50 years ago, about 1 in 3 of the people around you were children. Now it's about 1 in 5. That makes a huge difference when it comes to the availability of infrastructure for kids, convenient playmates, family activities.
For a lot of young people, parenting just looks isolating
