Today @Payward, the unified financial infrastructure platform that powers @krakenfx, announced that Digital Asset Special Investments I, LP, a Payward-affiliated investment fund, and its clients acquired AAVE tokens.
The AAVE tokens were acquired through secondary market purchases, and Payward may make additional acquisitions in the future. Payward and Aave are also exploring opportunities to collaborate on future initiatives.
As traditional and onchain markets converge, Payward believes DeFi is an integral part of the global financial system, with Aave playing a leading role in this evolution.

Britain's welfare ratchet.
My column for @FT. Political incentives, rising expectations on the state and deeper economic failings make the UK's benefits system hard to rein in.

BREAKING
Over 1,200 illegal migrants have broken into Britain since Thursday.
Dutch economists found each illegal migrant costs their taxpayers’ £330,000. The UK Government’s MAC has cited this research.
So, our lack of borders since Thursday will cost us roughly around £396,000,000.
Update following the Binance incident:
All markets are now unfrozen across Aave V3 and V4.
They were frozen as a precaution after initial reports, which paused new deposits and borrows while withdrawals and repayments continued as normal.
Aave contracts were unaffected by the incident and positions remained fully collateralized.

By design, a Morpho Blue market can't protect its users: it can't freeze the market to mitigate risk, act on the interest rate curve or implement rate limiting, and it has no Umbrella junior tranche to protect deposits.
When an isolated market breaks, its lenders take 100% of the loss.
If you're a Morpho user facing an adverse event, they will just tweet and let you sink, as they did during the dozens of vault blowups that led to dire user losses. Ask anyone who was in a curator vault during Stream/Elixir.
Users won't trust an infra with real size if it doesn't care about them or support them.
That's why, even with infinite VC funding, deployed incentives, a competitor that lost its best contributors and paid partnerships, Morpho only added a pathetic +$2.15B in active loans this year.
For comparison, I did as much in one week at the Plasma launch.
A difficult day for the industry. Thinking of everyone affected and the teams working around the clock.
For onchain credit, moments like these are a reminder of why market structure matters, especially how risk is managed, shaped and contained.
Morpho was intentionally built this way:
- Markets are isolated. You choose which markets you're exposed to, and a problem in one market doesn't spread to the others.
- Collateral isn't rehypothecated for everyone, it is a choice.
- Counterparty exposure (eg sanctioned entity) can be controlled. Optional permissionning, like on Midnight or Vaults, lets participants define who can lend and borrow.
None of this eliminates risk entirely. Individual markets can still see liquidity constraints and rate volatility over the coming days as DeFi absorbs the shock. But these design choices are meant to prevent systemic risk and limit contagion in moments like this.
As more of finance moves onchain, thoughtful market structure will be fundamental to a more resilient financial system, especially if we want to be trusted by the world's largest players.
We’re aware of reports of a potential incident affecting Binance-affiliated wallets.
Aave’s contracts are unaffected, and positions remain overcollateralized. As a precaution, all DAO-operated markets across V3 and V4 have been frozen.
The freeze pauses new deposits and borrows, and users can still withdraw and repay their existing positions.
Binance has begun recovering affected assets for users and continues to work with law enforcement, issuers, blockchain intelligence firms and industry partners to trace, freeze and recover additional funds.
The company has already publicly committed to cover losses through company funds in the prior announcement.
Binance has already reserved over $6.34B of company funds to cover this incident. $5B of these funds are already held in the exact token assets that were impacted. We are completing the purchase of the remaining amount by buying token assets through market channels and OTC channels. We are doing this to match the format of the remaining token assets and address any asset shortfalls. This step can take longer because some tokens may have low liquidity and OTC settlement also takes time. We will share more progress as soon as we can.
These figures do not include frozen or protected assets, which remain subject to ongoing recovery and verification. Currently, $3bn has been frozen, with thanks to our industry partners. We are working with partners and law enforcement to recover the frozen assets. We will continue to use company resources to cover confirmed shortfall and will provide further verified updates as recovery efforts progress. Ultimately, all user funds will be verified publicly through our Proof of Reserves.
We will weather this storm. Thank you for the support.

Various members of those appalling Conservative governments have labelled Restore Britain extremists or whatever else.
Rees-Mogg, Nadine Dorries, Boris Johnson and some.
My view? What they inflicted on our country was the real extremist policy.
Unfettered immigration from the third world, COVID lockdowns, vaccine passports, record taxes, outrageous debt, the spread of DEI.
A betrayal, on so many levels.
They had the majority, they failed - astonishingly, many are now helping to lead Reform.
And then those same people have the cheek to insult and abuse Restore Britain?
To be honest, after what they did to our country, I don't know how they sleep at night.
