Many people talk about the 'Golden Age of Antibiotics' but I hadn't seen it visualized properly.
How abundant was antibiotic development during that time period? How many types of antibiotics were developed?
So I visualized it myself!

ALT A timeline titled "The Golden Age of Antibiotics" shows when each antibiotic drug class was first available for medical use, with example antibiotics labeled. Classes are color-coded by their source: actinomycetes, other bacteria, fungi, or synthetic. Milestones include the first antibiotics (arsphenamines in 1910), as well as the discovery of many actinomycetes-derived antibiotics, such as streptomycin, and sulfonamides, penicillins, and tetracyclines. Data: Hutchings, Truman, Wilkinson (2019). Created by Saloni Dattani for Our World in Data.

📢 Historic day for Portugal and phage therapy! 🇵🇹 A framework was approved, allowing magistral preparation of personalized phage products. 🙌 Grateful to Jean-Paul Pirnay, my group @AzeredoLab Portuguese patients, and doctors who signed a petition inspired by the Belgium model.

Professor @urmibajpai spoke about bacteriophages and endolysins, which may promise to help with the increasing challenges of# AMR. There are a lot of biologics present in nature in abundance, but we need to create awareness of those, she said. #AMRAwarenessWeek

Checking on competition at the #VIVChina2024. #Phages are presented as an option to #antibiotics in animal production. The more we "advertise" this key role of #phages, the better. Lack of #awareness is still the most limiting factor to adoption. #AMR #OneHealth
