Complicity in Slaughter: Outrage Explodes as Reports Link Musk and Trump to Ukraine Drone Shield Crippling
Demands are rapidly intensifying for Donald Trump and far-right disinformation propagandist Elon Musk to face international war crimes charges following a catastrophic disruption to Ukraine's frontline defenses.
A devastating exposé by The Telegraph, citing four anonymous sources, reveals a shocking level of complicity: it was Elon Musk who personally approached Donald Trump with the proposal to throttle Starshield — the military-grade version of his Starlink satellite network. Trump reportedly agreed to the scheme.
By deliberately crippling Ukraine's drone defense systems, this calculated move effectively disabled the country's shield against Russian aggression. The sabotage directly allowed Vladimir Putin's forces to rain lethal drone strikes down upon undefended cities, resulting in the brutal slaughter of innocent Ukrainian men, women, and children.
Critics and legal experts argue that by actively interfering with military infrastructure to benefit an invading, authoritarian Apparatchik force, both figures have crossed the line from political interference into direct complicity in war crimes.

The gospel is not meant to make people odd or less than fully human; it is meant to renew them in their genuine, image-bearing humanness.

I have chaired PhD vivas on the most esoteric and irrelevant subjects. Unpopular opinion I know, but ignorance of biblical literature and the theological history of ideas (irrespective of personal belief) turns most research in the Humanities into houses built on sand.
Angry but important - @HJoyceGender with wider thoughts higher education in the UK today following the Jason Arday affair. She and others were shocked to see some of what passes for scholarship today.
(Also makes a reference to @CharlotteCGill )
‘Arday’s plagiarism, and the poor quality of his individual work, are the least of what is so enraging about this story. The bigger problem is that he was part of a broader endeavour that made both him and others more stupid and useless. In a functioning market — one without government subsidies for useless qualifications and where the customers and end consumers’ interests were aligned — fields like the one Arday worked in would attract few or no students — perhaps the occasional eccentric with private means.
Academia is supposed to be self-regulating, but the Arday affair shows that it really cannot be trusted. In a mawkish and condescending op-ed published in the Telegraph on August 19th, five days after Arday’s death, the vice-chancellor of Cambridge, Chris Smith, wrote:
“Our former Senior Tutor at Pembroke College in Cambridge used to say in his speech to the incoming first-year students, on their first day: “You’re not here to learn to be clever; you’re here to learn to be kind.” We should all perhaps reflect on that message, in the aftermath of the tragedy of Jason Arday.”
Honestly, what does he think Cambridge is — a pre-school? What does he think universities are for? Kindness is taught by example, and largely before children turn 18. And no institution can have more than one purpose. If they try to add another, they will inevitably lose sight of the original one and end up with none.
For universities, that purpose is supposed to be the pursuit of knowledge, not “kindness”. Pursuing knowledge will sometimes be unkind. When academics who commit plagiarism and departments who appoint incompetents for base reasons such as politics are revealed in public and shamed, it will feel “unkind”. And more generally, free inquiry will sometimes turn up inconvenient, unwanted and actively hurtful truths. A university that thinks kindness is more important than those truths is not worthy of the name.’

I will be holding Pope Leo XIV in my prayers over these coming days, asking for God’s protection, closeness and care. With Christians across the country and around the world, I pray for the Pope’s swift recovery.

Wrong. It is not thumos that is the heart of the greatest civilizations, but reason. And it is not the “struggle for distinction” that made the West, but the pursuit of the true and the good. It was this Socratic pursuit, not Spartan pride, that led the Church to embrace the achievements of the Greeks. As Plato warns in the Republic, to subordinate reason to thumos and the pursuit of truth to the pursuit of honor is the mark of timocracy, the first of the four corrupt types of polity and corrupt types of soul he identifies. Yet this is what many on the right today embrace, just as many on the left embrace the corrupt egalitarian and libertine tendencies Plato says are typical of democracy, another of the corrupt regimes he identifies. From the perspective of the tradition begun by Socrates and Plato, this timocratic strain of the right is not a cure for what ails the West any more than the woke left is, but simply another manifestation of the disease.
The enigma of unregenerated Australian test cricket
Nic Maddinson is the ninth different specialist opener Australia have tried since David Warner's Test retirement at the start of 2024 🇦🇺
The 34-year-old was dismissed for a 33-ball duck in his first Test innings for nearly a decade.

Nice illustration that the wealthy already contribute hugely to the tax NZ govt receives. If you are going to argue for a wealth tax, please acknowledge the (unequal!) contribution wealthy Kiwis are already making ...
As the USA knows well, king(maker)s do like to tax ...!
It beggars belief that Opportunity Party’s lightning fast softening and flip flop in message regarding its tax policy doesn’t even rate a mention in Adam Pearse’s NZ Herald article this morning.
Pearse reports that “Opportunity leader Qiulae Wong says agreeing to no progress on tax reform in the next term would be “worth considering” if there were other significant policy wins from negotiations as part of a potential National-led coalition.”
Yet on Wednesday, during the NZ Herald’s Future of NZ debate, Opportunity deputy leader Daniel Eb was adamant they would still bargain hard for their tax policy package.
And yesterday, Qiulae Wong appeared on Herald Now and said she didn’t think litigating the details through the media could be done, and that they would be pushing hard for everything, including their tax policy.
Off the back of last night’s Taxpayers’ Union–Curia poll, which put Opportunity below the 5% threshold, Wong is now litigating the tax policy issue through the media and is clearly no longer set on pushing and bargaining hard for that policy.
That is a whiplash change of message in the space of just three days. Tax reform was already left off their September bottom lines, but “we will bargain and be pushing hard” and “no progress would be worth considering” are not even close to the same thing.
Ain’t this the truth … education matters: for personal advancement, for lifting national productivity, for engagement in an AI world needing critical faculties to navigate shoals of misinformation, so it is a big electoral issue which way education goes:

Warning: contains very strong views about the book, which one of us loves, and one of us absolutely despises.
