Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has introduced an updated version of its Chuyka drone detector, designated Chuyka 4.5.0, with expanded frequency coverage and a new external video output function.
The device scans four frequency bands: 1,080–2,200 MHz, 2,870–4,500 MHz, 4,890–6,040 MHz, and 6,050–8,800 MHz. According to the manufacturer, a full scanning cycle takes approximately 4–8 seconds.
A new feature allows intercepted analog video signals from FPV drones to be displayed on an external monitor or television, in addition to the device’s built-in display.
Chuyka 4.5.0 is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, providing up to 4.5 hours of operation. The device weighs 940 g (2.1 lb), and the manufacturer claims a detection range of up to 4 km (2.5 miles), depending on signal strength and operating conditions.

Imagine a battlefield covered with sensors that detect the enemy even when drones cannot fly.
Fog, heavy rain and electronic warfare create blind spots. A “smart skin of the ground” is a distributed network of acoustic and seismic sensors, mini-radars and ground robots could help turn the terrain itself into a continuous sensor network.
In an in-depth interview with @Oboronka1, Brave1 explores how these technologies can work together to improve battlefield awareness.

In May, five Russian satellites surrounded a commercial imaging satellite.
And this week, one of them — Cosmos 2612 — is maneuvering to get even closer. It will make its closest pass over the next 24 hours.
(h/t @AdamCohen8 for the visualization)
This is wild... Russia seems to be threatening a *commercial* satellite that provides imaging services to Ukraine:
▸ starting about two weeks ago, Russia started maneuvering five (!) of their classified satellites to the same orbital inclination as the ICEYE satellite
▸ these burns were big, on the order of 100 m/s, clearly using chemical propulsion given the speed of the burns — very expensive and deliberate maneuvers
▸ as of last Friday, all five Russian satellites are now co-planar, at ~97.8° inclination, with three of ICEYE's satellites, and aligned in other orbital elements (e.g. RAAN) that make it clear they're specifically targeting this set
▸ I am a little skeptical that Russia is specifically targeting -X36 — there are two other satellites at the same inclination/RAAN (-X37 and -X38) — but the Russian sats are now all within striking distance of -X36, which is why people are concerned about it specifically; the closest cross-track distance is an estimated 500 meters (!!), all while the satellites are orbit 550 kilometers above Earth
▸ Russia has unleashed a cyberattack on a commercial satellite before (Viasat), and it is official Russian policy that commercially-owned infrastructure that aids in military efforts "may be legitimate target[s] for a retaliatory strike.”
▸ there's speculation that this could be a precursor to an RPO mission (meaning: physically grabbing the satellite or some other kind of non-kinetic attack like blinding/jamming)
Worth tracking closely. And unfortunately more evidence that space is militarizing, fast.

A classified Russian spacecraft makes unprecedented close approach to an imaging satellite supporting Ukraine.

Russian military satellite Cosmos 2612 has maneuvered to close in on ICEYE-X36 part of the ICEYE commercial SAR constellation, which supports Ukraine.
Launched from Plesetsk in April 2026, Cosmos 2612 has co-orbited ICEYE-X36 for months in essentially the same plane and altitude (Δi 0.00°, ΔRAAN 0.1°), then in late September raised its orbit, drifted, and dropped back to set up a close pass.
Closest approach today (2026-10-16): 4.5 km at just ~4 m/s.
A matched orbit set up by a deliberate maneuver is classic inspector behavior, not a random flyby.
Data: Space-Track + orbital analysis
As of October 15, 2026, a Russian satellite called Cosmos 2612 is moving into position for close-proximity operations with a U.S.-registered commercial satellite supporting Ukraine. “No one should assume to know what Russia will do next, but the potential for a threat is there,” write @crswope and Chantal Li.
