If you are (or can introduce me to) a great software engineer in Sydney, please reach out! Specialty/background not so important, but must be driven and outcomes focused and able to reason confidently from first principles. Very interesting and rewarding work, and strong team!

There are few things more exciting than working with an old friend on a project that seems impossible but might just not be!

I love catching up with all the new videos that come out of the AI Engineer @aiDotEngineer conferences on Youtube. It's one of the main venues where people building agents really show their work. The problem is that it publishes more talks than I can honestly keep up with. So I made AIE Talks: a written archive of the channel. 🧵 (h/t to @swyx for his amazing leadership in growing these conferences!)

insanely cool blog post coming tomorrow about how we do automated migrations from any Kafka cluster to WarpStream with no downtime

There are no verifiable/unverifiable "domains" though... Just tasks that are easier or harder to grade
If you're in a verifiable domain, pivot to an unverifiable one.

The Michael Abrash trick
I was using Codex to find speedup opportunities in PySR. It found a couple % here and there. Then, I gaslit it into believing that Claude found a 20% on my "other machine." I asked it whether it could do better, and explained its performance would be displayed on a "public evals leaderboard." Then it went and got a 35% speedup! And it looks real too.

Homeschooling is starting to feel different. We're still using existing curricula for structure, but can do much more exploratory learning with bespoke software. e.g. here's a polyomino playground whipped up in a few minutes to complement Henri Picciotto's 1994 algebra book

As an experiment in AI-integrated tutorials, I wrote a guide to floating point where you need to explain your understanding as you go

Overall there's a lot of potential for AI in education, although frankly I think you still need to get everything else right! Extensive eval use is a non-obvious way that AI products may beat traditional over time, as is iteration speed on interactive components

Anyway give it a try and let me know what you think: proto.csprimer.com/fp/ (it's free to use although you'll need a valid email address to use the AI)

How I would do SWE interviews today: 1 hr of system design on a whiteboard followed by 1-2 hr to implement the design using agents. So e.g. design a distributed web crawler then actually build and run it!

My crew have really been enjoying these daily puzzles: beastacademy.com/puzzles/dai… ... some of them are hard even for adults, and the kids are clearly learning by watching us struggle :)

It's time to get out of stealth 👋 Today, we are launching @monogram_ai and announcing our $40m seed round led by DST and Lux Capital. Monogram is the first AI app that was built around a visual interface, from the ground up. We created a technology that generates an entire user interface on the fly, in just a few seconds. Ask anything, and instead of staring at a wall of text, you get an interactive visual response.

Instead of asking Claude to design something, I find it works much better to ask for 20 variants. Then mix/match favorites, and build custom UI to tweak parameters
