my quick thoughts on the walmart primary care stuff 1) it's virtually impossible to make primary care economics work unless it's a loss-leader to other services or takes risk. Maybe one of the reasons CVS pushes forward while all the others push back is because of the attached payer (Aetna) 2) It's doubly hard when your company is evaluated by retail metrics instead of healthcare (e.g. sales per square foot) 3) honestly I think one of the only ways we're going to change rural healthcare is by totally expanding scope of practice for pharmacists/caregivers to do way more clinical things (maybe with AI-assisted tools) because part of what makes these models so untenable is staffing costs for clinicians (see @dp_oneill tweet xitter.cf/dp_oneill/status…) 4) I think it's easy to look at the telemedicine companies shutting down like Optum, Walmart but almost all of them have implemented some of the worst version of telemedicine - taking the same face-to-face modality and putting it online. I think maybe this is the end for urgent care telemedicine as a business, but I think a risk-based chronic care management (telemedicine + in-person) is still totally untapped 5) It's ...sad? I think of all companies Walmart had the best chance of delivering differentiated primary care in rural areas. I hope another company with a strong rural presence tries again

I had a huge breakthrough experience on a @mymindbloom ketamine journey a while back. I wrote it up as a blog post and it’s vaguely surreal to see the company share the post. Destigmatize getting the help you need.
At the age of 10, @Haje had a transformative moment: a single act altered the course of his life. He punched his teacher. Visit to bit.ly/3m3SAQk dive into his story. Mindbloom became Haje's guide. He has been able to master self-control, embrace empathy, and prioritize compassion over anger in challenging moments throughout his life.

Britain is in a vicious loop of: council budget cuts -> closure of public sports centres/pools/football -> more sedentary behaviour -> rise in chronic disease -> rise in healthcare costs -> council budget cuts -> repeat. A downwards spiral to poor health.

Your adolescent patients are anxious about bracing. Their parents are anxious about surgery. Try and cater your education to them and don't be afraid to refer them to online resources--misinformation in these forums was not as rampant as I expected!

remote patient monitoring has just made me kind of sad as a category A tool that really could help patients in their care journey has instead been focused on increasing billables to practices with largely very little meaningful change to their care plans

The hardest businesses to make work in health care are oriented around long-term prevention. Not because the outcomes are poor or the evidence isn't there... But because no one in the system is incentivized to care. Most insurers see their members churn out within 7 years.

“Bacteria store 'memories' and pass them on for generations, study finds” What was considered wild speculation and almost shouted down is now confirmed: bacteria store memories in a manner we overlooked and do not fully understand. This is big. Article: phys.org/news/2023-11-bacter…

Statistically, this is what #founders get wrong when pitching to #VCs... This is the breakdown, ranked by flag. Green means go, red means fundraising impossible. Anyway - as a pitch nerd, I find this absolutely fascinating. Let me pull out some of the highlights... 1/

allow me to indulge for a second about one beautiful word in the tv show The Bear: "heard" "heard" is used by kitchen workers to improve coordination. it's like "message received". reduces miscommunication. - "burger and fries for table 7" - "heard!" but in the show they exapt it, out of the kitchen and into their interpersonal relationships. I share something heavy and you say "heard" "heard." period. no ritualised performance of empathic listening. no defensiveness. no advice. just a decisive "heard" it's solid af

I would have rolled my eyes at you if you had told me two years ago that I would be freshly making popcorn and hand feeding it to a dog because they were poorly. The emotional manipulation is next level
