There aren't that many videos that demonstrate working on listening decoding in class, so I thought I'd record a snippet from a lesson in which a B1 group tries to transcribe authentic speech for the first time: eltgeek.wordpress.com/2018/0…

Delighted to finally have a copy in my hands. It was a joy to work on this book with the amazing Herbert Puchta. But it was a challenge squashing what you want to say into just 300 words per tip! Huge thanks to the team at CUP, especially Scott, Jo, Karen, and Alison x

I've known about & tweeted @samwineburg's great work on evaluating Internet info, but have just learned about @holden's, influenced by Sam & Sarah McGrew. Mike's SIFT method amplifies prior work beautifully. nytimes.com/2021/02/18/opini…

Last week: got a bit too excited about Ed Sheeran's new song, because of the way he pronounced his 'u's in the trailer. Today: again a bit too excited to see that Youtube automatic captions transcribed his 'tune' as 'gene'.
A fascinating talk by Martin Bloomfield about the way dyslexic people process visual information. #IATELF2021

Very useful open access article on corpus evidence vs 'the canon' of grammar items and their description in some materials. Evidence from actual use demonstrates the weakness of many such descriptions.
We don't normally use 'go' after 'going to', the pedagogical grammars tell us. Is it true? Has it ever been? And how can we investigate claims of grammatical tendencies using corpora? Answers here, in my new paper (open access!): pressto.amu.edu.pl/ojs_3/pli…
If you're participating in this year's IATEFL conference, come join me for a talk about TubeQuizard tomorrow afternoon.🙂
