In terms of the balance of performance and convenience it's one of the best (if not the best).
When in doubt, just use C# and ASP.NET Core.
It's blazing fast.
.NET 11 RC2 is even faster.
For me, it's the best overall major web framework - auth, config, logging, perf, modular middleware, DI, cross-plat, etc.
But I didn't expect this:

RC2 didn't fix it, so logged: github.com/dotnet/runtime/is… - this is a hard "oof" for SE.Redis, otherwise (as in: performance collapses)
I thought I'd re-run my SE.Redis "async runtime" (.NET 11) checks; instead, found a catastrophic perf collapse in RC1, that I *think* (testing now against "daily") is already fixed for RC2 (github.com/dotnet/runtime/pu…). Fun!

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

For those new followers who have been so gratious.... who am I?
I was the first employee of #DMADesign, and I created the #Lemmings animation that spawned the game.
I then created the prototypes that spawned #GTA, and wrote the graphics engine for it.

It’s an interesting challenge for @BrighterCommand. We have supported Polly since Dylan first created it (long before MS adopted it) but now that support pushes our community into paying an OSMF to a 3rd party.

- Actually, I don't think it was a defeat. Four goals? What four goals? No, Gianni, it's more like a draw. Or even our minimal victory, if... we could somehow remove those four goals. Think about it, Gianni, what could we do here? And if I were to invade Belgium? Then we'd definitely be declared the winners, right? To be honest, I'm not sure if they even have an army at all.

Sandy is conflating four stories:
- The story of the contract programmer is incorrect, and was before Sandy’s time at id. The contract programmer was hired to do the SNES port of Wolf 3D (not the network code). They ended up not doing it. So, we had to stop development on DOOM for three weeks to do the port. That person was employed by another company at the time, and although they assured us they had approval to do the work, that was not true. To avoid a lawsuit, we gave them rights to publish the Mac version of Wolf 3D. See ch 12 DOOM Guy for this story. The person was a good programmer, but not genius (ie Carmack, Sweeney, Gebelli, Woz). While the story was certainly told to Sandy, it was not told as it happened because Sandy was not there.
- The DWANGO story is incorrect. DWANGO happened after DOOM II shipped. John Carmack had nothing to do with that, nor did the contract programmer mentioned above. I wrote the client code for this with Kee Kimbrell. It was a win for id and for our games. See ch 14 in DOOM Guy for this story.
- The story of DOOM being banned from universities due to its network code is partially correct. The issue with DOOM 1.0’s network code was it used broadcast packets that flooded networks. DOOM was banned at universities until we released v1.2 on Feb 17, 1994 to fix that. It didn’t hurt us at all. DOOM found a way.
- The network code topic is wrong. We never had an external coder for network code. That was id programmer John Cash. John Cash definitely had nothing to do with DWANGO in any way. We never had an external programmer for network code.
The house doesn't always win. Four anecdotes in which "I was there" when game companies got fleeced. Thrice by individuals, once by their own publisher.
First, id Software and our non-network code. John Carmack told me that while our game worked great on a network, they had hired a guy to do the code over dial-up internet. He lived out-of-state (IIRC, California). I was told that he was a brilliant programmer, and that his current boss knew he was coding for id as a side gig. AND that when he finished his current project, he'd leave his company and come work for id Software.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The first anecdote incorrectly describes a contract programmer for Doom's network code; it was for Wolfenstein 3D's SNES port before the author's time at id Software, unrelated to DWANGO or university bans. x.com/romero/status/…

I’ll be actually-homeless soon (living out of my car) if I can’t land a job. Our house is being sold within two months if I don’t find work. I’ve been trying everywhere, but very few companies are answering. So please, email me or DM with literally anything involving computers, or ask a friend, or your business’s HR person. (I’d love to work with you.) I’ll do a good job, and I can learn and adapt to any working style you need.
I was employee #2 at Carmack’s AI lab, Keen. I worked at Groq helping to design and implement their LPU chips. I made Books3, a dataset trained on by LLaMA and Claude. I’ve been programming for 25 years.

I wanted to avoid the humiliation of begging, but nothing is working. I need money or else our 3yo daughter loses her birth home. I’ve been through dozens of interviews from the companies that do answer, but the market is bad right now. You can have me for a steal.

This is amazing work by Iván. The next version of iCircuit will have MicroPython support - live coding with in-circuit simulation - thanks to him. Emulator written entirely in C# and running on mobile. 🥳 #dotnet
Remember the Inception levels I reached with the Pico 1? Well, the new RP2350 (@Raspberry_Pi Pico 2) silicon just raised the bar. 🚀
Running MicroPython natively on iPadOS inside iCircuit, pushing the PIO to generate real-time PWM. Zero latency between the emulator and the analog UI. 🧵👇
