SCOOP - Qatar would construct two power plants in Lebanon and sign a 20-year liquefied natural gas supply deal under a proposal to revive the ailing Lebanese power sector, a document seen by Reuters showed.
The plan - which still requires approval - includes:
- New combined-cycle plants at Deir Ammar & Zahrani, 825 MW each
- QatarEnergy 20-year LNG supply agreement
- FSRU
- 800 MW solar, 440 MW wind
Lebanon has had many power plans that went nowhere due to political bickering and vested interests of politicians. Will this one be different?

Worth a read: this is a thoughtful self-critique from Iranian scholars
"It casts doubt on the assumption that time inherently works in Iran's favor. The premise that prolonging the confrontation... will force Washington to compromise fails to account for the possibility that Iran's own endurance will also erode."
"The discussion sharpens the distinction between survival and victory. The mere fact that the Iranian regime has managed to survive recent conflicts and maintain its resistance does not necessarily indicate success in achieving its stated political objectives."
How to End a War: Iranian Researchers Challenge Tehran’s Strategic Assumptions. Conclusions from a discussion held in Tehran marking 46 years since the outbreak of the Iran–Iraq War, in which criticism was voiced against Tehran's war strategy. My recent piece for @INSSIsrael.

If confirmed, this is telling: Russian data centres get hit, and online activity around AfD suddenly plummets. 📉
So much talk about German patriotism… then the connection from Russia goes down. 🤔🇷🇺
Apparently Russian servers have been hit by a Ukrainian strike and immediately massive online hard right chatter has collapsed.
This particular chatter was in support of Germany’s AFD, their equivalent to Reform, but similar patterns are being seen in hard right movements everywhere, including the UK.
If anyone needed anymore evidence that Russia are driving a massive wave of hard right propaganda in Europe, this is it.
So, all you “patriots” - you’ve been duped by Russia, and you are about as far from patriotic as anyone can be. You are easily brainwashed though. This is how propaganda works.

Russia used 150,000 Twitter accounts for Brexit
There was 45,000 tweets with the majority encouraging people to vote Leave a few days before the 2016 vote
These accounts had previously focused on Russia's annexation of Crimea, before focusing on Brexit

As usual numbers are way better than words. Especially when words are motivated by elections or express a sense of panic.

Western intelligence agencies have warned Europe’s defence bosses that Russia is stepping up efforts to assassinate them, prompting companies to increase personal security around their top executives ft.trib.al/oqgT20u
Same applies to all populists in Europe and elsewhere. Only Trump dares to admit it. He knows his voters well and he knows how they are willing to applaud his nonsense.
Always useful to give context to numbers 👇
Clearly it’s an electoral stunt that would be short-lived.
Context:
300k tonnes of diesel = 93 million gallons.
US uses 160 to 170 million gallons per day - so 300k tonnes would last 13-14 hours.
Total order of 1.8 million tonnes = ~82 hours of US use = ~3 days 10 hours.
